WWE superstars will lock horns at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on September 3 — as the sports entertainment company stage a major event on British soil for the first time since SummerSlam 1992.

While the biggest names in wrestling have regularly competed in the UK at arena venues since Bret Hart and the British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith headlined at Wembley nearly 30 years ago, there has only ever been talk of another show of such grandeur.

But that will change later this year when the home of Welsh rugby stages an as yet unnamed PPV.

John Porco, WWE senior vice president of live events, said: "Principality Stadium is the perfect place for a major event, hosting our amazing fans from Wales, throughout all of Europe and around the world.

"The weekend will be filled with a variety of WWE experiences that we believe will leave a lasting memory, on par with SummerSlam at Wembley Stadium in 1992."

Stadium manager Mark Williams added: "We're extremely proud that Principality Stadium has been chosen by WWE to host this major event, which is testament to the stadium's reputation as a world-class venue.

"Principality Stadium is unique in its position at the heart of the city centre, which will undoubtedly offer WWE fans an unrivalled event experience both inside and outside of the stadium and bring great benefit to the wider city of Cardiff."

Roman Reigns is currently the WWE's undisputed world champion.

He defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 earlier this month to unify the Universal and WWE titles.

The 36-year-old powerhouse is a cousin of wrestling legend and Hollywood icon Dwayne Johnson, who held multiple titles as The Rock.
