Daniel Podence wheels away in celebration after netting the winning goal for Wolves

Daniel Podence's stunning strike gave Wolves a 2-1 win over Leicester in an entertaining Midlands derby at Molineux.

The hosts took the lead inside 10 minutes when Ruben Neves beat Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel with a terrific effort from outside the box.

Bruno Lage's side nearly doubled their lead when Rayan Ait-Nouri's shot struck the woodwork.

Instead the away side drew level just before half-time as Ademola Lookman diverted Marc Albrighton's driven cross into the Wolves net.

Leicester failed to capitalise on their second-half dominance with Podence netting a spectacular 66th-minute winner.

Brendan Rodgers' side are now winless in their last five Premier League games and remain in the bottom half of the table.

Wolves meanwhile are just six points off fourth place with two games in hand.

After securing a fifth win in six league games, Wolves boss Lage said: "The three points are the most important thing in the game.

"I think we could do better, especially with the way we started the game very well, dominating with the ball.

"We need to be more solid. Sometimes we are, but today we missed one or two things and those are the things when you look, you can see. Those are the things I want to see every game."

While Rodgers said: "Sometimes after you lose a game there's obviously disappointment and frustration, but I was very enthused by the team today.

"I thought lots of our play was really, really good. We've started to see in a number of the last games the bits of our Leicester returning, back to our levels of play and creativity.

"Keeping that performance level up is important, that intensity, that collective pressure and then, eventually, they will get the wins."

Did you know?

Leicester have won 27 points from their 23 games this season, 16 fewer than they had mustered at this stage last term.

The Foxes have conceded 65 goals in all competitions this season, nine more than any other Premier League team.

Wolves scored two goals from outside the box in a single top-flight game for the first time.

Rodgers' men are the only side without an away clean sheet in the Premier League this season.

Albrighton has provided an assist in eight different Premier League seasons for Leicester, the joint-most for the club alongside Jamie Vardy.
