Declan Rice's £105m move to Arsenal can help them seriously compete for silverware in the coming season.

The Gunners were the closest challengers to Manchester City last season in the Premier League as Mikel Arteta's side impressively sat at the top of the table for much of the campaign.

Their title bid ultimately failed as City's relentless pursuit of the Treble eventually saw them secure the league, the Champions League and FA Cup, but the Gunners have strengthened significantly over the summer in order to compete again — and Rice is their most eye-catching signing.

It should be remembered amid all the hype of the move that Rice is a seriously experienced Premier League player already and an established England international.

This is no rising star, as his 204 top-flight appearances to date prove. 

He should take the move across London in his stride, while the fact he is 24 years old does still give him some scope to improve.

It is important, too, to consider he now knows what it is like to win trophies, having led the Hammers to their first major trophy in 43 years when he picked up the Europa Conference League crown at the end of last season.

That sweet success will only serve to increase his appetite for more glory days in May and June and he will be desperate to help his new club pick up more silverware, while taking his own game to a new level in the process.

Rice's hefty price-tag means he will be expected to hit the ground running and the Gunners will want his craft, graft, poise and experience in midfield to help turn them from nearly-men into serial trophy winners again.

With Manchester City, however, such a crack outfit and a supremely tough opponent in the title race, it still seems a huge ask for Rice to be the man who proves to be the inspiration to end what will be a 20-year wait for the league title come spring.

However, it would not be a surprise if he played a key role in ensuring the Gunners do lift at least one trophy in 2023-24, while another runners-up finish is also well within Arsenal and Rice's grasp.
