Teen sensation Andreeva demolishes Jabeur at Australian Open
Teen sensation Mirra Andreeva could not hide her delight after knocking her idol Ons Jabeur out of the Australian Open.
Andreeva, 16, showed why she is one of the sport's rising stars with what she claimed was "probably" the best display of her fledgling tennis career.
After securing a 6-0 6-2 second-round victory, the Russian said: "I was really nervous before the match because I'm really inspired by Ons, by the way she plays.
"It was one of my dreams to play against her because I really like the way she plays.
"In the first set, I showed amazing tennis. I honestly didn't expect that from myself.
"I just wanted to go and play on this big court for the second time, just to enjoy tennis, just to enjoy the time, and I did.
"It means a lot to win this match."
Because of her age, Andreeva is only allowed to play in a limited number of WTA tournaments.
And on one of the biggest stages of all, against a three-time Grand Slam finalist, she demonstrated the quality of her all-round game to record a first win over a top-10 opponent.
Andreeva, who faces France's Diane Parry next, added: "For me, it was an amazing match. Probably the best match [of my career].
"I'm super happy with the level I showed today on the court."
Former world No1 Caroline Wozniacki is also out of the season-opening Grand Slam in Melbourne after letting a lead slip against Russian qualifier Maria Timofeeva.
Wozniacki, playing in her second major event since returning last year after having two children, was beaten 1-6 6-4 6-1.
Timofeeva, ranked 170th in the world, admitted that beating a player of 2018 champion Wozniacki's stature had left her speechless.
She said: "I was going into the match without any expectations, just to show what I'm capable of. I enjoyed every second of it."
