Burnley to win to nil

Swansea’s recent bright spell came to an end with a 1-0 defeat away at Watford, which was their first loss since interim manager Alan Sheehan took charge of the club following the departure of Luke Williams.

Burnley’s long unbeaten record in the Championship continued with their draw with West Brom, but the failure to win saw Championship leaders Leeds extend their lead over the third-placed club to four points.

Team news

Swansea’s on-loan defender Hannes Delcroix cannot play against his parent club Burnley this weekend.

Harry Darling, Kristian Pedersen and Myles Peart-Harris are all unavailable for the Swans due to injury.

Burnley have appealed against the red card CJ Egan-Riley picked up against the Baggies, while Lyle Foster is a doubt after his dead leg in that match and Aaron Ramsey is definitely out with a hamstring issue.

The stats

Alan Sheehan's Swansea had gone three games without conceding, winning two, before the 1-0 loss at Watford
Alan Sheehan's Swansea had gone three games without conceding, winning two, before the 1-0 loss at Watford

Swansea’s first loss under Sheehan came after a three-match unbeaten spell in which they beat both Blackburn and Middlesbrough at home.

Burnley are unbeaten in 24 Championship matches, winning 14 and drawing 10 times.

The Swans have only scored one goal in their last three games.

Burnley won 2-1 at Cardiff in their last away game, but kept clean sheets in each of their previous six games on the road.

Prediction

Swansea have been much improved under temporary manager Sheehan, who has done much to further his case for getting the job on a permanent basis, despite the midweek loss at Watford.

A decision could be made during the international break and a positive result in this match would be a great help for the Irishman’s hopes, though given Burnley’s form, a draw may be the best he can hope for.

The Clarets last lost a Championship game back in November and, if it was not for their tendency to draw so often, promotion could be already sewn up.

Instead there is still all to play for, with Scott Parker’s team sometimes struggling to find the right balance between defensive excellence and being able to score goals themselves.

Burnley have only conceded 11 goals all season and though two of them have come in their last three games, when backing this team to win you may as well add the caveat of them also not conceding.
