A drama-filled second-half saw Everton come from behind to claim all three points against Southampton to pile the pressure on Ralph Hasenhuttl.

After a dull first-half, Joe Aribo opened the scoring only a few minutes after the second-half began.

But Everton then upped the gears as two new signings combined for their equaliser — Andre Onana headed the ball across to Conor Coady who finished smartly.

A matter of seconds later, Frank Lampard’s side found another goal and turned the game on its head — Alex Iwobi put a speculative ball into the back post but Dwight McNeil finished well to send the blue section of the stadium into pandemonium.

The result means Hasenhuttl's side have only picked up seven points from eight games, while Everton have gained a bit of breathing space after back to back wins in the Premier League.

Goalscorer Conor Coady said: "My eyes lit up a little bit at the back post when I saw it pop down. It was important we got it and that we bounced back pretty quickly from going behind.

"We work a lot on second-phase set-pieces, trying to make sure we do them right, so it’s pleasing when something like that comes off for us."

Hasenhuttl is under pressure after a slow start to the season and he suggested that his young side lack a cutting edge.

He said: "We are convinced by what we have done today, Premier League football is brutal. When you don’t score, you concede.

"This is what this young team has to learn. It’s not enough to invest a lot and create, you have to score."

"The positive thing for me is that we never stopped trying and creating chances.

"I feel we have a team that is young. The crowd was fantastic during the 90 minutes. This is what they need. They need time, they will be a very good team."

Did you know?

Everton won an away Premier League game in which they conceded first for the first time since February 2020 (3-2 at Watford), having been winless in 24 such games before today (D4 L20).

Southampton have dropped 92 points from winning positions in the Premier League under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, 20 more than any other side since his first game in charge.

Everton are unbeaten in six Premier League games (W2 D4), their longest in a single season since a run of seven in November/December 2017.

There were just four minutes and 39 seconds between Joe Aribo putting Southampton 1-0 up, and both Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil scoring to give Everton the lead.

Everton’s Dwight McNeil scored his first Premier League goal since March 2021 (for Burnley against the Toffees)  — he had failed to score with his last 66 attempts in the competition before today.

Five of Everton defender Conor Coady’s six Premier League goals have come away from home, with Southampton the first side he’s scored more than once against the competition.
