Paris St Germain edged closer to a record-extending 13th Ligue 1 title and their 11th in the last 13 years with a comprehensive 6-1 victory at St Etienne.

St Etienne were good value for a 1-1 half-time scoreline after PSG striker Goncalo Ramos’ penalty had cancelled out Lucas Stassin’s early header for the hosts.

But PSG ran riot after the break with teenager Desire Doue firing a second-half double and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Joao Neves and 17-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye also on the scoresheet.

Luis Enrique’s side, who remain on course for an unprecedented quadruple, extended their unbeaten league run to 27 games this season and equalled AC Milan’s all-time record for Europe’s top five leagues of 38 away league games without defeat.

However, it was St Etienne, winless in their previous nine matches, who made a flying start, taking a ninth-minute lead when Belgian striker Stassin headed home Zuriko Davitashvili’s cross.

It was end-to-end action in the first half as PSG chased a speedy response.

Beraldo and Fabian Ruiz both blazed high and wide when well-placed for PSG before Ramos spooned a golden chance straight at St Etienne goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur.

Stassin then looked odds-on to double the home side’s lead, only to fire Irvin Cardona’s low cross off target.

Ramos levelled it up for PSG from the penalty spot two minutes before the break after VAR confirmed Florian Tardieu had caught the Portugal striker’s boot in the box.

PSG had been stretched in the first period, but within eight minutes of the restart they struck twice to take control and then quickly put the game to bed.

Kvaratskhelia cut inside to drill a clinical low finish inside the near post in the 50th minute after pouncing on a mis-placed St Etienne pass.

The visitors doubled their advantage three minutes later when Doue converted from inside the area after being teed up by Bradley Barcola.

Neves drilled home a close-range finish as PSG continued to carve open a tired home defence and Doue grabbed his second, skipping his way past two defenders before lashing home his side’s fifth.

VAR denied St Etienne a penalty after referee Jeremy Stinat had pointed to the spot following a challenge on Stassin in the box before Mbaye tapped home PSG’s sixth from Barcola’s inside pass.

PSG, who won the French Champions Trophy by beating Monaco in January, play at second-tier Dunkerque in the Coupe de France semi-finals on Tuesday and face Aston Villa in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on April 9.
