Oval Invincibles are setting the pace in the men’s Hundred, having won five of their opening six assignments, and they will start strong favourites in Sunday’s derby dust-up at home to London Spirit.

The Invincibles recorded a six-wicket success over Southern Brave on Thursday, with all-rounder Sam Curran playing yet another key role with 35 runs and two wickets.

Curran is the leading wicket-taker in the competition alongside leg-spinning teammate Adam Zampa, both having claimed 13 scalps, while he is also one of the most productive with the bat having compiled 176 runs in his five innings.

The Spirit, meanwhile, have lost five of their opening six assignments with Friday's narrow defeat to Manchester Originals ending their already slim chances of reaching the knockout stages.

Team news

Having started the campaign so impressively, Oval Invincibles are unlikely to make any changes with Will Jacks and Dawid Malan opening the batting.

Curran has been pushed up the order due to his imperious form and could come in at three ahead of Jordan Cox and captain Sam Billings.

London Spirit seem to have settled on Keaton Jennings and Michael Pepper as their opening partnership and Matt Critchley, Liam Dawson and Andre Russell provide the power at the end of the innings.

The Invincibles have won five of their opening six matches and they have won five of their previous six meetings with rivals Spirit.

Oval defeated London rival Spirit by 30 runs when they met last week, with Curran top scoring with 51 runs and taking five wickets for only 16 runs.

Spirit have lost their last three matches, falling 12 runs short against Manchester Originals on Friday.

Dawson is Spirit’s leading batsman with only 101 runs from his five innings and Dan Lawrence is next best with 99 runs.

Curran’s total of 176 runs in five innings is the second-highest tally in the competition, behind only Southern Brave’s James Vince.

Prediction

Curran stole the show as the Invincibles brushed aside London Spirit at Lord’s last week and he could hog the headlines when they renew their rivalry at the Oval.

The England international cracked 51 off only 22 balls, firing six maximums, before taking five wickets for 16 runs as Spirit attempted to chase things down.

Curran also scored 68 off 38 balls in the victory over the Manchester Originals two matches ago, a total which featured another six maximums, and his excellent form means Oval have pushed him up the order.

The 26-year-old is one of the leading runscorers in the competition and, with openers Jacks and Malan not always getting off to strong starts, he could carry the scoring burden.
