Inisherin looks to be a leading contender on day three of Newmarket's July Festival

- Newmarket July meeting Day 3: Best bet, each-way selection and treble
- Recommended bets include:
- Inisherin to win the July Cup
- Aalto each-way in the Bunbury Cup

The third and final afternoon of action from Newmarket's July Festival takes place on Saturday, with the Group 1 feature race of the meeting taking top billing.

The July Cup (4.35pm) is a six-furlong all-aged Group 1 sprint steeped in history and Inisherin will be attempting to continue his rapid and perhaps surprise ascent through the ranks in the speedsters division for trainer Kevin Ryan.

That is one of five live ITV races from Newmarket on Saturday afternoon, with the Group 2 Superlative Stakes and the Bunbury Cup handicap also part of the terrestrial offering.

Day 3 – Key info

First race: 1.40pm Rossdales British Ebf Maiden Fillies' Stakes

Feature race: 4.35pm July Cup

Having enjoyed their own separate Group 1 sprints over this six-furlong trip at Royal Ascot last month, the three-year-old generation and the older performers now come together for the July Cup, one of the staples of the British summer racing programme.

Some of the greatest speedsters have added their name to an illustrious list of winners and now Inisherin will be attempting to get in on the act after his dominant Royal Ascot win.

Best bet of the day

Inisherin to win the July Cup (4.35pm) @ 9/4

The Kevin Ryan-trained Inisherin always looked sure to be above-average following a debut second over a mile here last September behind Bellum Justum. He underlined that with a smooth Newcastle all-weather win on his next start in March and connections duly pointed him at the 2000 Guineas over on the Rowley Mile here in May.

He finished an honourable sixth in that opening Classic of the season but, rather than build on that, connections opted to try sprinting and they were rewarded immediately with the Group 2 Sandy Lane at Haydock in a dominant display, taking the unbeaten record of today's rival Vandeek in doing so.

From there to Ascot and the Commonwealth Cup where Inisherin travelled powerfully and proved much too strong for his three-year-old contemporaries.

He now faces older rivals but does so getting 3lb and is fancied to become the fifth of his generation to taste July Cup glory in the last eight years.

Best each-way bet of the day

Aalto each-way in the Bunbury Cup (4pm) @ 10/1

Ian Williams will be hoping Aalto can get up in the Bunbury Cup
Ian Williams will be hoping Aalto can get up in the Bunbury Cup

Carrytheone looked desperately unlucky in last month's Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and has strong claims here from an unchanged mark, ensuring Michael Bell's charge takes a big chunk of the market.

An alternative is Aalto for Ian Williams. The French import was well held in two 2023 runs for this handler but has raised his game this term, running excellent races in defeat at the likes of this venue, York and Haydock in four runs. He creeps in here off 8st 12lb and looks a solid contender with in-form Rossa Ryan on board.

Day 3 acca

Every day of Newmarket's July meeting we will be suggesting an acca to give customers a big win. On day three, our treble pays 38/1 with LiveScore Bet.

Bet 1: Back Ancient Truth to win the Superlative Stakes (3.25pm) @ 6/4

Charlie Appleby is seeking to win this Group 2 for a fifth time in nine years and unbeaten Ancient Truth can achieve it. He looked a smart prospect when doubling his Newmarket tally with a C&D win last month and has plenty more to come.

Bet 2: Back Inisherin to win the July Cup (4.35pm) @ 9/4

Dropping to sprinting has proved a master-stroke from Kevin Ryan with this Shamardal colt and his Commonwealth Cup win at Ascot last month was utterly dominant.

Bet 3: Back Wonder Kid to win the Trust A Trader Handicap (5.10pm) @ 7/2

Much-improved this season for a step up in trip moved into handicaps, Hugo Palmer's charge easily defied a penalty for his smooth Newbury win when doubling up over this track and trip last month. This increased mark of 84 should be well within reach.
