Erling Haaland's first Premier League hat-trick helped Manchester City come back from behind to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 at the Etihad.

The hosts found themselves behind with less than four minutes on the clock when Eberechi Eze's free-kick caused chaos and confusion in the box, with the ball ricocheting off a number of City players before going in off the unfortunate John Stones.

Eze was the provider from a set-piece once again as Palace doubled their lead in the 21st minute through Joachim Andersen's first goal for the club, an emphatic header.

City halved the deficit in the 53rd minute when Bernardo Silva danced inside from the right and struck a low, left-footed effort in from the edge of the box.

Pep Guardiola's men were back on level terms nine minutes later as Phil Foden collected an overhit cross and swept it back into the middle for Haaland to head home.

And their comeback was complete with 20 minutes remaining when the Norwegian finished off a slick passing move from a corner before he completed his hat-trick late on after being played in by Ilkay Gundogan.

City's hat-trick hero Haaland expressed his delight at having helped his side come back from behind to win.

He said: "[It's a] really good feeling. A proud moment for me and my family. We keep going. These games are why I'm here — to turn things around when there are difficult times.

"[My dad] will probably say he had more goals in the Premier League than me so I will chase that!

"In the end it was about small adjustments. We were almost there sometimes in the first half so it was about getting it done. This is what we do. It's a good feeling.

"It's really important to have this kind of mentality and we should get it even more. There is more we can do on set-pieces. We have to keep working hard.

"It's not easy to come to a new club, a new country so it has been a good start. I think [my family] are all proud today."

Palace midfielder Eze, meanwhile, described the result as "difficult to take".

He said: "It's a difficult one to take. It wasn't enough in the second half. We were getting our chances.

"When you sit off against a team like this then eventually they will take their chances. You know if you soak up the pressure it won't be enough eventually with the players they have got.

"We worked until the end, put in a good performance but it wasn't enough. We did well in the first half but it's a difficult one.

"We know that if we keep making performances like that we will win more games than not. Hard one but we keep going."

Did you know?

City have come back from two goals down at half-time in the Premier League for the first time in their history, drawing two and losing 51 on the previous 53 occasions.

Palace have lost despite having a two-goal half-time advantage in the league for the second time in a row (also losing against Everton in May) after failing to lose on any of the previous 22 occasions (21 wins, one draw).

City have found themselves two goals behind in four of their last six league matches, as many as in their previous 84 matches combined.

Palace have scored first in three of their last four away Premier League games against City, having never done it in their previous nine.

Eze is just the third player to provide an assist in three consecutive away Premier League appearances for Palace, after John Salako in 1992 (four in a row) and Christian Benteke in 2018 (three).

Scoring his fourth hat-trick in Europe’s top five leagues, Haaland is just the fourth player to score six or more goals in his first four Premier League appearances (six goals) and the first to do so since Diego Costa netted seven in 2014 (also six each for Sergio Aguero and Mick Quinn).
