Norris eager to learn from 'winner' Ricciardo

Lando Norris is hoping to pick up some good habits from new McLaren team-mate Daniel Ricciardo when the 2021 Formula 1 season begins in Bahrain on March 26.

Ricciardo, whose podium celebration involves drinking champagne from a sweaty shoe, has stepped over to the Woking-based outfit as replacement for Carlos Sainz.

Norris, 21, had enjoyed a good working relationship with the Ferrari-bound Spaniard last term, but believes there is a big opportunity to improve his own situation with the arrival of the seven-time grand prix winner.

He can win races, he can score podiums, he’s good in probably every single area Lando Norris on new Mclaren team-mate Daniel Ricciardo

He said: "I only see it really as a positive. He can win races, he can score podiums, he’s good in probably every single area.

"To switch it up and get to know someone different, learn how he approaches his races and his whole mindset of Formula 1 is going to be very interesting, so it’s good for me.

"I can learn from him, but it’s also going to be a different way of working with him compared to how I worked with Carlos in terms of helping the team out and working together as just team-mates."

Norris finished ninth in last season's championship on 97 points and believes having the ever-smiling Australian alongside him in the paddock will spur him on to better things.

He added: "Last year, I was very happy with how I did. There were things for me to improve, but on the whole, it was a much better season compared to season one.

"There were certain parts of the season which were particularly good, one of them was the last race for instance [where Norris finished fifth in Abu Dhabi].

"I’m happy but I know I have things to work on, things to improve and that is certainly going to help me and motivate me to keep improving. Working alongside Daniel will also help me become a better driver."
