Enrique believes Premier League title is beyond improving Liverpool
Jose Enrique believes a Premier League title challenge is beyond revitalised Liverpool despite their flying start.
The Reds have won seven of their eight matches so far this term — only failing to do so at Chelsea on the opening weekend — and sit second in the Premier League.
And though Enrique expects Manchester City to pull clear at the top of the table, he is encouraged by how Jurgen Klopp's rebuilt side have started the campaign.
The former Reds left-back exclusively told LiveScore: "The attacking options are incredible.
"The five attackers and the new signings in midfield are great and are the reason they have started so fast.
"I don't think they will be fighting for the title, to be honest. They concede too many goals and there are not enough options to cover the main defenders.
"With Manchester City and Arsenal at the level they are, I don't think it's going to happen.
"The top four is the target as well as competing to win the Europa League and the two domestic cups.
"But it has been a positive start."
The Klopp factor
Enrique was a member of Klopp's first Liverpool squad and says it quickly became obvious what was to come.
The Spaniard was hugely impressed by the German's training methods and regrets that he was past his best as a player by the time they worked together.
He said: "I would love to have played for him in my prime because I believe he would have made me a better player.
"It was a tough year for me because I couldn't play the way that I used to but he made me captain for one game. He connects with his players.
"What he's done at Liverpool, the way he's doing it, I've never seen anything like it.
"Obviously Pep [Guardiola] has won more in terms of numbers but what Klopp has done I don't see matched by any other manager."
Super Salah
Mohamed Salah has registered four goals and four assists in seven appearances this season, making at least one goal contribution in each match.
And Enrique hailed the Egyptian king, claiming he is now one of the greatest Premier League players of all time.
He said: "Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were on another level — but for Liverpool, Salah has been that kind of player.
"Even though the team has been successful, he has been carrying them. Without him, it would not have been possible.
"He always gets a goal or assist and now he is breaking records. It is difficult to say who the best is but he is certainly up there in the history of the club and the division."
Salah will be central to Liverpool's chances in seemingly their toughest game of the season so far at Tottenham on Saturday.
Enrique has been impressed by the job Ange Postecoglou has done so far this term but expects Spurs to come unstuck against the Reds.
He said: "Tottenham are playing good football — with [Heung-Min] Son as a striker now I think it makes a massive difference.
"But with the attacking options Klopp has, I think they are favourites.
"It should be an enjoyable game to watch but I expect Liverpool to win."
