At this early stage of the season, Hull find themselves on the cusp of the play-off positions, having recorded a 2-1 win over Blackburn last time out to lie seventh with six points.

Bristol City are in mid-table following a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham on Saturday, their first defeat from their opening three games.

Team news

Ruben Vinagre and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh have both recovered from injury and could make a return for Hull against the Robins.

Jacob Greaves sustained a heavy knock against Blackburn last time out but should be fit and ready to feature in this match.

Andreas Weimann and Robert Atkinson remain sidelined for the visitors, who will also be without Rob Dickie following his red card against Birmingham at the weekend.

The stats

Only one point separated Bristol City in 14th and Hull City in 15th in the Championship standings at the end of last season.

Between them they racked up 30 draws in England's second tier last term with Bristol City posting 14 and Hull registering 16.

Both teams have scored in all three of Hull's matches in the Championship this campaign.

Bristol City, meanwhile, kept only three clean sheets on their travels in the Championship last term.

Prediction

Nigel Pearson's Bristol City have endured a mixed start to the Championship, with one win, one draw and one defeat

Hull City and Bristol City finished in mid-table in the Championship last season, placing 15th and 14th respectively.

Neither club forged a serious push for the play-offs but stayed clear enough of the drop zone, and both look on course for steady seasons once again.

Hull have started the new season with two wins and a defeat, responding to their opening loss against Norwich by beating Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn.

That has left them just outside the play-off positions, whereas Bristol City are further down the standings in 14th place.

The Robins have had a mixed bag of results so far, beating Millwall, drawing with Preston and losing to Birmingham in the league, and Nigel Pearson will be demanding more from his side.

Even the win over Millwall only came courtesy of a 94th-minute winner from Matty James and they could play out another stalemate when they visit Hull.

These teams registered a combined 30 draws in the Championship last season and both of their league meetings were tight, with Bristol City winning 1-0 at Ashton Gate and Hull prevailing 2-1 at the MKM Stadium.
