Trouble in Rome

Two Brighton fans have been stabbed in Rome ahead of the first leg of the club's Europa League last-16 clash with Roma.

Reports suggest the pair were taken to hospital with minor wounds after being attacked as they left a bar last night.

It is understood they have since been discharged and that English police liaison officers and the British Consulate are providing help and support.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "Our dedicated football officer PC Darren Balkham is in Rome to work alongside our Italian counterparts and European partner agencies."

Roberto De Zerbi's Seagulls face Daniele De Rossi's side at the Stadio Olimpico tonight.

And the club have advised fans heading to the match to use a free shuttle service to and from the ground.

A Brighton spokesperson said: "Street crime, including pickpocketing, can take place in Rome. Be vigilant, take sensible precautions and have valid travel insurance."

Clicking into gear

Mikel Arteta believes "everything clicked" at title-chasing Arsenal following their winter training camp in Dubai.

Since they took a week-long trip to the United Arab Emirates in January, the Gunners have gone on a run of seven straight Premier League victories — scoring 31 goals in the process.

The trip came after Arsenal had suffered successive league defeats to West Ham and Fulham before being knocked out of the FA Cup by title rivals Liverpool.

They now sit two points off the top of the table heading into their final 11 fixtures and Arteta, speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Brenford at the Emirates, said: "It was necessary [the camp].

"We had a tough period before where we played so many games and had some defeats.

"It was necessary to help us keep improving and demanding of ourselves, especially with the weather and some of the things we had time to work on.

"Everything clicked, we won, we played good and that helps.

"It was really good and it came at the perfect time for us. We built the chemistry around the place.

"The amount of time we spent together — we enjoyed the time on the field and off the field. It was a really positive trip."

Give it time

Sean Dyche is confident Dominic Calvert-Lewin will get back on the goal trail for relegation-haunted Everton.

The striker, 26, has only scored four goals this season, with the last one coming back in October.

He was left out of the starting line-up for last weekend's 3-1 defeat by Premier League rivals West Ham before climbing off the bench for the closing stages.

But Toffees boss Dyche said: "It's finding the moment, taking the moment — and he's well aware of that. No striker has forgotten their record.

"I certainly don't mention it to him. I just want him to work hard, I want him to play for the team, I want him to get in the right areas.

"I know the quality he's got, I know his aerial power, I know he can finish. It'll come.

"It's believing in what we do, believing in himself and continuing to do the right things.

"Sometimes you need one that comes off your shin. Sometimes you can make it come off your shin by just being alert and alive to things bouncing around the box."

Summer loving

Wolves will discuss a new contract with boss Gary O'Neil this summer.

He has impressed since taking charge on the eve of the season when Julen Lopetegui walked out due to the financial constraints he would have to work under.

A relegation battle looked to be on the cards but the former Bournemouth manager, 40, has put Wolves in the hunt for a top-six finish in the Premier League.

And sporting director Matt Hobbs has confirmed that O'Neil has earned the right to talk about an extended deal having also led his side to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Hobbs said: "That's naturally where this is going, he's done well enough to have that conversation.

"Part of the conversation will be the plan for the club and that's where you have to have the honest conversations about what it looks like going forward.

"That is an inevitable situation we find ourselves in this summer, for sure.

"But let's not talk about it at the moment, let's keep an eye on what we're trying to do. We want to finish the season well and have the FA Cup to look forward to.

"We have more to play for with the league and the squad drive that a lot."

Wolves host Fulham in the league on Saturday before Coventry visit Molineux for an FA Cup showdown a week later.

Ready for battle

Jess Carter knows Chelsea will have to dig in and battle to overcome Manchester City in the Conti Cup semi-finals tonight.

The Blues head to the Joie Stadium looking to book their place in the final against London rivals Arsenal later this month.

And England defender Carter, 26, told her club's official website: "We always try to leave everything out on the pitch.

"With the cup, you have that one-off chance to get through to the next round. I can imagine it being quite an aggressive game.

"We're getting to that stage of the season where every competition is up for grabs and we want to be in that cup final just as much as Manchester City do.

"We will be going there with every intention of trying to be as hard to beat as possible."
