Poch wants perfect prep
New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is more interested in preparation than results as the Blues fly to America for their pre-season tour.
Pochettino's side will face Wrexham, Brighton, Newcastle, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund stateside — but the Argentine is not bothered about the scorelines.
He said: "The results need to arrive in the Premier League and the competitions we are involved in, so it’s a different objective in pre-season.
"Now we must provide the players with the best tools for them to grow, feel better, and start the pre-season in perfect condition.
"Together, we are going to be in a perfect situation to work and develop the way we want to apply ourselves on the pitch."
Griez seizes No7
Atletico Madrid have stripped Joao Felix of their No7 shirt and handed it to Antoine Griezmann.
Felix was loaned out to Chelsea during the second half of last season but the Blues are unlikely to attempt to bring him back to Stamford Bridge for the new campaign.
That has not prevented the Portuguese international being stripped of his favoured number, however, with his future in Spain still up in the air.
Griezmann wore the iconic No7 jersey throughout his first spell in Madrid, before also donning it for Barcelona.
He is rewarded for a superb 2022-23 campaign in which he scored 15 LaLiga goals and assisted 16.
Brooke signs for the Blues
Chelsea have signed 18-year-old defender Brooke Aspin from Bristol City.
The centre-back has agreed a four-year contract with Emma Hayes' side and will return to the newly-promoted Robins on loan for their 2023-24 Women's Super League campaign.
She said: "I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was a little girl and to be here right now, I can't really put it into words.
"I’m excited to learn from the best. The players and staff are world class and I want to be world class myself."
Channel 4 to show Young Lions live
Channel 4 have struck a last-minute deal to televise England Under-21s' European Championship final against Spain.
No UK broadcaster had previously bought rights to the competition but Saturday's showdown will now be available on free-to-air TV.
The channel's chief content officer Ian Katz said: "We’re delighted that the nation will be able to watch England’s U-21s as they attempt to make their own bit of history against Spain on Saturday."
England have won all five of their matches without conceding a goal to reach this stage, beating Israel 3-0 in their semi-final on Wednesday.
Tonali's tough call
Newcastle's new signing Sandro Tonali has revealed that the decision to leave AC Milan for Tyneside was the toughest he has made as a footballer.
The Italian midfielder, 23, came through the ranks at Brescia before signing for Milan in 2020.
He said: "The most difficult choice of my career but one which had to be made now.
"Milan welcomed me like a son and I will be thankful to them for the rest of my life, I will never forget it. I love all my team-mates, I will always be their fans because they are golden people.
"It was a choice I had to make and I made it at the right time."
Ajax release new kit
Ajax have released their kit for the 2023-24 season, designed by adidas.
The kit is immediately recognisable, with the Dutch giants saying: "It is one of the least altered home jerseys in the world, an approach the club take great pride in."
The Amsterdam outfit's crest features centrally on the shirt, a nod to where it first appeared in the early 1970s.
As a tribute to the positioning of the crest, the adidas and Ziggo logos also feature centrally on the jersey, as do Amsterdam's iconic St Andrew's crosses.
