Potential Europa League groups for Liverpool, West Ham and Brighton
Ahead of today's Europa League draw, we analyse the best and worst case groups for each of the English sides.
Liverpool
Best case: Qarabag, Sturm Graz, BK Hacken
Jurgen Klopp's side should have little difficulty taking nine points from three home games in this group, virtually enough to qualify even without much success on the road.
Worst case: Sporting, Molde, Toulouse
Sporting reached the quarter-finals of last year's competition and look the best side outside of Pot A. Molde's attacking brand of football will make life awkward while Toulouse won the Coupe de France last season.
West Ham
Best case: Real Betis, Sparta Prague, BK Hacken
David Moyes will relish the chance to get one over on Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini, who replaced him as West Ham boss in 2018, while Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek would be keen to renew the rivalry with Sparta Prague from their Slavia days.
Worst case: Marseille, Molde, AEK Athens
The Hammers' potential fate is the same as Liverpool's but Ligue 1 giants Marseille and Greek champions AEK Athens would pose Moyes' men two tricky away trips.
Brighton
Best case: Ajax, LASK, Rakow Czestochowa
Brighton will be keen on a combination of big clubs and favourable matches in their first European campaign, which this group would offer.
Games with Ajax would be particularly eye-catching — and winnable, considering that the Dutch giants have not been at their best since the departure of Erik ten Hag.
Worst case: Roma, Sporting, AEK Athens
If any manager can stunt the Seagulls' exciting football, it is Jose Mourinho. None of these games would be easy.
