Diego Simeone has extended his Atletico Madrid contract until 2027.

His previous deal was due to expire at the end of this season so Atletico will be delighted to retain their most successful manager.

The Argentinian joined in 2011 and has committed his future to the club for the next four years.

Simeone, 53, has guided Atletico to two LaLiga titles in 2013-14 and 2020-21 and claiming a Copa del Rey in 2012-13.

The former midfielder has even brought European glory to the club, securing two Europa Leagues in 2011-12 and 2017-18.

He almost brought home the Champions League twice but lost to Real Madrid in the final on both occasions.

Atleti have had a successful start to the season despite recently losing 2-1 away at strugglers Las Palmas.

They sit fourth in the LaLiga, six points behind surprise leaders Girona.

However, in Europe, a victory in the next Champions League group game at Feyenoord would confirm their place in the last 16 with a match to spare.

Atletico return to league action against Villarreal on Saturday.
