Malan eager to 'prove people wrong' after World Cup century
Dawid Malan says the desire to silence his doubters is fuelling his remarkable form.
The 36-year-old top scored with 140 as England hammered Bangladesh in their second World Cup match in Dharamsala on Tuesday.
Jos Buttler's side posted a total of 364-9 before bundling out their opponents for 227 — and Malan scooped the Man of the Match award after registering his fourth one-day international century in nine innings.
He said: "I'm desperate to do well in this format.
"I'm desperate to win games of cricket and prove my point.
"When I get in I don't like to give it away. Hopefully I can continue doing that when I do get in.
"Sometimes I play good shots and sometimes I play bad shots but when you get on good wickets it's about trying to cash in against a type of bowling that you think suits you on the day."
Malan also heralded the strength of the rest of England's batting line-up after their mammoth first-innings total put the game beyond their opponents.
He reserved special praise for Joe Root, whose score of 82 off 68 deliveries marked his second half-century in two matches at this competition.
He said: "Root is just so consistent and scores runs all the time.
"He allows us all to play how we see fit on the day. We don't have to second-guess ourselves so when you have someone as good as that it allows us to play with a bit of freedom."
England's next match is against Afghanistan in Delhi.
