Cheltenham Festival Day 2 predictions: Monty to star in Brown Advisory

&w=707&quality=100)
The feature race on day two of the Cheltenham Festival is the Champion Chase, for which Willie Mullins' ace two-mile chaser El Fabiolo heads the betting.
Mullins also saddles star novice Ballyburn in the opening Gallagher Novices' Hurdle, but the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, Coral Cup and Grand Annual are more interesting betting puzzles and we have provided a wager for all three races.
Cheltenham Festival Day 2 tips including:
- Monty's Star to win the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase
- Guard Your Dreams to win the Coral Cup
- Libberty Hunter to win the Grand Annual
Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase – Cheltenham 2.30pm, March 13
Key Talking Points: Can Fact To File handle the big step up in trip?
It is unusual for an odds-on favourite at the Cheltenham Festival to be venturing into the unknown regarding the trip.
Fact To File has looked exceptional over intermediate distances this season but is far from guaranteed to stay an extra three furlongs in the Brown Advisory. And that is truer still with the ground again set to be testing on day two.
Monty’s Star is a half-brother to Albert Bartlett second Monalee and unlike Fact To File his stamina is guaranteed. While he flopped in the 2023 Albert Bartlett himself, that came after he endured a hard race at Clonmel a few weeks earlier which might have left a mark.
Henry de Bromhead has campaigned him differently this season and he arrives fresh following his first start in 73 days, a race in which he toyed with a smart rival in Three Card Brag. There is much more to come from him.
Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase Best Bet: Monty’s Star at 11/2 with LiveScore Bet
Coral Cup – Cheltenham 3.15pm, March 13
Key Talking Points: Will Sa Majeste live up to the hype?
The British handicapper conceded his struggles in giving an accurate handicap mark to Sa Majeste. He settled on 140, but that could be way off the mark. Sa Majeste pummeled subsequent Cleeve winner Noble Yeats when last seen, but the trip was wholly inadequate for Noble Yeats and we do not know where we stand with the winner. We will soon find out whether his market prominence in the Coral Cup is justified.
Guard Your Dreams has been rated much higher in years gone by as a former Grade 2 winner and has slipped to a tempting mark of 137 for his first handicap start in years.
His performances this season have stood out as prep runs for a decent handicap over a longer trip, and he gets that now, having struggled in the Elite Hurdle and International Hurdle on his return from a long absence. He is a fascinating runner.
Coral Cup Best Bet: Guard Your Dreams at 22/1 with LiveScore Bet
Grand Annual – Cheltenham 4.50pm, March 13
Key Talking Points: Can Cobden get his festival win?
Harry Cobden has been capturing the public’s imagination with this jockeys' title tussle with Sean Bowen and riding at the top of his game all season. He is as composed as they come and Evan Williams has moved swiftly to book him for the ride aboard Libbery Hunter in the Grand Annual as he attempts to notch another valuable winner.
The booking of Cobden looks like the icing on the cake for Libberty Hunter, whose cosy defeat of Arkle runner Matata last time suggested he has plenty in hand off his revised mark.
An unexposed chaser who is progressing with each outing, he will love the ease in the ground and has nothing to prove at the track. Irish plot jobs are always a concern in this race, but Libberty Hunter arrives with a favourite’s chance and is a backable price.
Grand Annual Best Bet: Libberty Hunter @ 6/1 with LiveScore Bet
