LiveScore Racing Preview: Ayr, September 17, 2021
Day two of the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup Festival takes place on Friday afternoon and there is a double helping of Listed action at the picturesque venue on their eight-race card.
Conditions are set to be good to firm for the event, which takes place from 1pm until 5pm.
And we have picked out five horses for you to follow.
1.35pm - EBF Nursery (6f)
Recent winners Locke and Straits Of Moyle need considering, while Golden Duke and Final Account are others of great interest, but ST ANDREW'S CASTLE is afforded a chance to atone for his disappointing nursery bow at Haydock (7f, good to firm) this month.
He was never travelling after getting a bump early on and his earlier efforts — a win over C&D in June and close fourth of 16 at Thirsk in August — were promising.
Coming back to 6f will aid him, while Andrew Mullen's return in the saddle is another plus point and it is almost certainly too soon to forget the promise shown in those first two starts.
LiveScore selection: St Andrew's Castle
2.10pm - British EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes (Listed, 5f)
Canonized won three times in her first five starts earlier in the year and while 0-3 since she has run with plenty promise in Listed company at Newbury and in a French Group 3 most recently.
William Haggas' Cheveley Park filly needs considering, as does the Irish raider GEOCENTRIC for trainer Ger Lyons.
Winner of a Navan maiden (5f, good) in July on her second start, she finished second behind impressive stablemate Sacred Bridge in the Group 3 Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh since.
This could well be a good bit of placement from the trainer.
LiveScore selection: Geocentric
2.45pm - Arran Scottish Sprint EBF Fillies' Stakes (Fillies' And Mares' Listed, 5½f)
Top-weight Keep Busy is already a Listed winner at this venue this season for John Quinn.
That was over a bare 5f and her stamina looked stretched over 6f at Deauville recently.
She is a key player on this form, as is Declan Carroll's TWEET TWEET, who looks very progressive this summer and has won 3-4 starts so far this term.
She likes to get on with it but she really answered some questions last time at York (5f, good) in a useful handicap when challenged — and she is well worth this step up in class.

3.20pm - Virgin Bet Ayr Bronze Cup Handicap (6f)
A wide-open sprint is in prospect here, Call Me Ginger is 2lb well in on these terms and has something to spare at Hamilton eight days ago.
He is bidding for a hat-trick for Jim Goldie, while others of note include Mark's Choice and Flying Pursuit, but TWILIGHT MADNESS is still lightly-raced and worth sticking with despite a Windsor defeat over this trip recently.
That prevented a four-timer but he was impressive at Newmarket in July and that Windsor effort suggests he can be expected to win races off this mark.
LiveScore selection: Twilight Madness
3.55pm - Virgin Bet Handicap (2m1½f)
A tough handicap is in prospect here over a marathon trip.
Lucky Deal ran another sound race at Doncaster last week but this is three starts in quick succession for him and he has not won since 2019.
Prince Imperial, meanwhile, takes an ease in grade and needs respecting for trainer Richard Hughes but LET ME BE is given the nod.
Keith Dalgleish's charge made rapid progress this season, winning six times in eight starts from late April until early July.
His mark climbed 33lb along the way and it appeared as though that hectic stretch finally caught up when he ran a poor race at Musselburgh 54 days ago.
With a short break to fresh him up, he could still be up to defying this mark and he promises to see this searching trip out.
