Arsenal vs Brentford predictions: Gunners can bounce back from rare defeat

- Arsenal have taken 25 points from a possible 27 at the Emirates
- Brentford are unbeaten in nine Premier League matches
- Recommended bet: Arsenal to win and both teams to score
Arsenal suffered arguably their biggest setback of the season in losing away at Everton last weekend, with a hardworking and tactically disciplined Sean Dyche team offering the blueprint of how to stifle the table-topping Gunners.
Manager Mikel Arteta will not be ready to press the panic button just yet, of course, and it is noteworthy that his team has reacted to each of their other three Premier League setbacks with thumping wins in their subsequent league outing.
However, some of the shine has dulled from Arsenal’s early season form, with Arteta’s men now having failed to score in three of their last five meetings with top-tier opponents in the Premier League and FA Cup.
Top-six-chasing Brentford will be looking to capitalise but manager Thomas Frank will be only too aware of how dangerous a wounded Arsenal side can be as his team was one of the three on the receiving end of a Gunners reaction following their only other league loss in 2022-23.
Team news
Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus will be out for another month or so as he recovers from surgery on the medial ligaments of his right knee and midfielder Mohamed Elneny is also recovering from knee surgery and will miss much of 2022-23.
Winger Reiss Nelson and attacker Emile Smith Rowe both have an outside chance of recovering from thigh injuries to return against Brentford.
Brentford have doubts over midfield pair Frank Onyeka and Shandon Baptiste and centre-back Pontus Jansson.
All three players have an outside chance of returning to the squad, with Baptiste the likeliest to feature.
The stats

Back-to-back 1-0 defeats to Manchester City in the FA Cup and Everton in the Premier League represent Arsenal’s first consecutive losses since May 2022, but both came away from home.
At the Emirates, the Gunners have dropped points on just one occasion this season — a 0-0 draw against Newcastle in early January.
While visitors Brentford are enjoying a fantastic season and are in the mix for the European places, that performance is mainly a result of their impressive record of 22 points harvested from 11 matches at the Gtech Community Stadium.
On the road, the Bees have been far less impressive — they have taken just 11 points from 10 matches and conceded heavily in all three away defeats, 5-1 at Newcastle, 4-0 at Aston Villa and 3-2 at Fulham.
However, Frank’s men have avoided defeat in seven of their 10 away games this term and an impressive victory at Manchester City just prior to the World Cup break was the third game of their current nine-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Prediction
Arsenal are rightly expected to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat at Everton with a victory over Brentford but the impressive Bees should make life tougher for their hosts than the odds imply.
A 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture in September was the result of one of Brentford’s worst performances of the campaign but even then the scoreline flattered Arsenal — Arteta’s men were deserved winners but were not three goals better than the Bees on the day.
Frank’s men have improved in the final third since then, netting twice or more in seven of their last eight league games, and given Arsenal have conceded in seven of nine league home games this term, adding over 0.5 Brentford goals to Bet Builder selections looks a decent play.
However, on each of the seven occasions they have conceded at home, Arsenal have still outscored their visitors so this could be another high-scoring home win for Arteta’s men.
