Katie McCabe drilled home a stunning winner as Arsenal kept their Women's Super League title hopes alive with a 2-1 victory over Manchester City.

Having fallen behind to a Khadija Shaw effort after just five minutes, the Gunners finally pegged back the visitors back in the 62nd minute through Frida Maanum.

And McCabe, 27, sealed the win 12 minutes later when she collected a short corner before blasting a left-footed effort into the top corner.

The result moves Arsenal on to 38 points — three behind leaders Manchester United — and above fellow title contenders City courtesy of a superior goal difference.

Speaking to BBC Sport, match-winner McCabe said: "We didn't start the game as well as we wanted to.

"But the team showed resilience to come back from a goal down. It's a massive three points.

"We're just concentrating on ourselves and each game that's put in front of us. It's another three points and we need to keep chipping away at it until the end of the season."

City were unbeaten in 14 WSL games heading into the match and Shaw's 27th goal of the season appeared to have given them the perfect platform to continue that run.

But she was denied a second by Sabrina D'Angelo before Lauren Hemp sent a glorious chance over the bar.

And the visitors were made to pay for those misses when Arsenal drew level through Maanum, who was on hand to turn the ball home after a scramble in the box.

That set the stage for McCabe to settle matters in fine fashion.

Reflecting on her goal, she said: "It's something we've been working on. Our set-piece coach had been wanting us to try it for a while.

"We weren't winning the first contact when it was going in direct, so we thought we'd change it up. And I was happy to see it hit the back of the net."

With the WSL pausing for the international break and the FA Cup semi-finals, Jonas Eidevall's Gunners will not be in action again until they face United on April 22.

McCabe said: "We want players to go away with their national teams and stay fit, then come back and prepare for a massive end to the season.

"It's going to be an exciting run-in."
