Niko Kovac's Wolfsburg will look to pick up where they left off against Freiburg

After landing four of five selections last time out in the European acca column, the Spotlight team aim to go one better with selections from the Germany, Italy and Spain.

Ligue 1 has a weekend off for the Coupe de France but the German Bundesliga returns from a two-month absence – we have picked out one game from the Bundesliga and two each from Italy's Serie A and Spain's La Liga to form a five-fold acca.

Wolfsburg return from their winter break eight points and five places below visitors Freiburg, but the Wolves have reason to believe they can upset the odds this weekend.

Niko Kovac's men went into the break in excellent form, winning five and drawing the rest of their final eight league matches of 2022, and they host a Freiburg side who are flattered by their current position in second place.

All but one of the visitors' wins this season have come against teams currently below Wolfsburg in the table. And their record against top-seven opponents reads one win, no draws and three defeats, with their two trips to top-half teams returning a 3-1 loss at RB Leipzig and a 5-0 thumping at Bayern.

Saturday, 7.45pm

Torino went into the international break with another top-half finish in their sights after claiming four points off AC Milan and Roma in their final four league matches of 2022.

However, the Turin side have struggled since the return, taking just two points from three matches against teams in the bottom six – including a demoralising 1-0 home defeat to Spezia last time out.

Fiorentina's poor autumn form put them in an unexpected relegation scrap earlier in the season but manager Vincenzo Italiano has turned things around.

The Viola have won four of their last seven Serie A matches – losing only away at Champions League-chasing pair AC Milan and Roma in that time – and should earn a fourth-successive home win against Torino.

Villarreal are impressing under Quique Setien

Villarreal have beaten Valencia and Real Madrid in their last two home league games and are a confident addition to an acca.

The Yellow Submarine are right in the mix for a Champions League place thanks to Atletico Madrid's struggles this season and head coach Quique Setien has settled in nicely at the Estadio de la Ceramica, earning three wins and a draw from his first six La Liga matches in the dugout.

A tough fixture list has seen them already face five trips to the other teams in the top eight and at home they have impressed, winning five of their seven outings.

That should become six of seven after hosting a Girona side whose only away win this season came in a come-from-behind victory against rock-bottom Elche.

Osasuna have lost only to top-three pair Barcelona and Real Sociedad in their last eight La Liga outings, and Los Rojillos can give their top-four tilt a further boost when they visit Elche.

After surviving relatively comfortably last season, Elche have been a mess in 2022-23 and are nailed-on for relegation after taking just five points from 17 league games.

The south coast side are on their fifth manager of the campaign and look in no shape to halt the charge of Osasuna, who have won six of their seven meetings with teams in the bottom eight.

Sunday, 7.45pm

Juventus will be looking to respond in Serie A after their poor performance against Napoli

Juventus suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat at leaders Napoli in their last Serie A outing but manager Massimiliano Allegri will demand a reaction from his team.

Atalanta would leapfrog Juve into the Champions League places with a victory at the Juventus Stadium, but do not look as much of a danger as their sixth-placed position would suggest.

All of Atalanta's league wins this term have come against teams below them in the table and their only positive results in their last eight outings have come when facing sides in the bottom half.

Home defeats to Inter Milan, Napoli and Lazio in that run – as well as a humbling at Lecce – suggest they will struggle at a Juventus side who have lost just one of their last 21 Serie A home games, winning the last five to nil.
