The Community Shield is English football's traditional curtain-raiser.

Formally known as the Charity Shield, this game generally pits the Premier League champions against the FA Cup winners.

Ahead of the start of the 2023-24 season, we are on hand to bring you everything that you need to know about the 2023 Community Shield.

Who will be playing in the 2023 Community Shield?

The 2023 edition will see Manchester City take on Arsenal.

City won both the Premier League and FA Cup last season, in addition to the Champions League, to complete a famous Treble.

In such circumstances, the team that finished second in the league contests the Community Shield.

Arsenal were top of the Premier League for most of the 2022-23 campaign, only to eventually be overtaken by Pep Guardiola's relentless side.

Ideally, this showpiece match should see the best two teams in the country face off and on the evidence of last season, that is exactly the spectacle that we will be treated to.

When is the 2023 Community Shield?

The Community Shield will be played on Sunday, August 6, at 4pm BST.

Originally scheduled to have a 5.30pm kick-off, the game will now start earlier, due to concerns regarding the difficulty that City fans could face when travelling home.

As is tradition, the clash takes place on the weekend before the start of the new Premier League season.

Where is the 2023 Community Shield?

The game will be played at Wembley in London.

Last season's match between Liverpool and Manchester City was contested at Leicester's King Power Stadium, as the national stadium was being used to host UEFA's Women's Euro 2022 Final.

The old Wembley first hosted the then Charity Shield in 1974 and remained the venue until 2000. From 2001 to 2006 the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff was used.

In 2007, the Community Shield returned to the rebuilt stadium. The exceptions have been the match in 2022 and the 2012 game, which was held at Villa Park as it clashed with the Olympics.

Where can I watch the 2023 Community Shield?

The Community Shield will be broadcast in the UK by ITV.

Television viewers can watch the game on ITV1. For those that want to stream the match, it will be available on ITVX.

Football fans in other parts of the world should check listings to find their local broadcaster.

Who are the recent winners of the Community Shield?

The omens look good for Arsenal, who have won the Community Shield more often than any other club over the last 10 years.

In that period, the Gunners have appeared in the match on four occasions and always triumphed, most recently in 2020 when they beat Liverpool on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

City have appeared in five Community Shields over the last 10 years. They have won it twice and lost three times, which includes the last two games and a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in 2014.

They last won this match back in 2019, when they beat Liverpool on penalties. At the time, Mikel Arteta was a member of Guardiola's staff.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are the current holders of the shield, having beaten the Citizens 3-1 last year.
