Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made the decision to hang up his boots at the age of 41.

The legendary Swedish striker officially announced his retirement after AC Milan's 3-1 victory over Verona on the final day of the Serie A season.

We take a look at five of the best moments from one the greatest careers of the modern era.

Puskas winner

Ibrahimovic scored many wonderful goals both domestically and internationally, but his acrobatic strike against England still stands head and shoulders above the rest.

During a 2012 friendly match where he scored all four goals for Sweden to secure a 4-2 victory, the marksman lobbed Three Lions goalkeeper Joe Hart from around 35 yards out with a perfectly-executed overhead kick.

The outrageous goal from the Scandinavian nation's record scorer saw him win the 2013 FIFA Puskas Award with 48.7% of the vote.

Trouncing Troyes

The 2015-16 season was the most prolific of Ibrahimovic's career and one of the best by an out-and-out striker this century.

From 51 appearances in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain, he scored 50 goals, including 38 in just 31 Ligue 1 appearances.

The serial winner scored two or more times in 12 French top-flight games, with four strikes coming in one awesome display against Troyes.

PSG won the match 9-0 and on top of his quartet of goals, Ibrahimovic notched an assist — one of 19 he registered in the campaign.

Clinching the Carabao

When Manchester United signed Ibrahimovic on a free transfer in the summer of 2016, there were some lingering doubts due to the fact he was 34.

But the No9 quickly silenced all the critics by thriving at the Red Devils under Jose Mourinho.

Ibrahimovic scored 17 goals in 28 Premier League games in his debut season, which was cruelly ended by a serious knee injury suffered against Anderlecht in the Europa League.

But he still had time to prove decisive in a big game for United, bagging a fantastic brace in the 3-2 victory over Southampton in the Carabao Cup final.

A new Galaxy

Debuts do not come much better than Ibrahimovic's for LA Galaxy in March 2018.

After the termination of his contract at United, the striker headed for American shores and became an instant fan favourite.

Ibrahimovic came on as a substitute in the El Trafico derby against Los Angeles FC, inspiring his new team to come from three goals down and win 4-3.

The first of the two goals was a 45-yard half volley, while the second was a towering header in second-half stoppage time to secure the three points.

After the game, he famously said: "I heard the crowd saying 'we want Zlatan', so I gave them Zlatan."

Milan derby heroics

Following his Californian adventure, where he scored 53 goals in 58 games, Ibrahimovic returned to Milan in December 2019.

He initially signed a six-month contract, which was then extended to cover the entirety of the 2020-21 season.

And that is where the striker delivered the goods for the Rossoneri at the age of 39.

His finest hour in the campaign came against fierce rivals Inter Milan, where the hitman scored both goals in a 2-1 away win.

Ibrahimovic finished the Serie A term with 15 goals from 19 appearances, numbers which were crucial to the team finishing second and reaching the Champions League for the first time in seven years.
