Dan Lawrence - Top London Spirit Run Scorer

Trent Rockets and London Spirit need to rediscover their winning touch or both sides run the risk of losing ground in the race for a place in the knockout stages of The Hundred.

The Rockets have lost two in a row after winning their first couple of fixtures, while the Spirit are struggling on two points after losing Sunday's derby battle with Oval Invincibles.

Trent's two losses have been narrow ones – by six runs against Birmingham and four runs against Welsh Fire – and at their Trent Bridge home they are 4/6 to deliver the victory.

Team news

The Rockets will look to their power-packed openers Tom Banton and Alex Hales to set the tempo, with Joe Root coming in at three.

Keaton Jennings is expected to keep his place in the Spirit side with Zak Crawley out with a broken finger.

Leg-spinning all-rounder Matt Critchley bowled beautifully on his first appearance of the season against Oval Invincibles and should retain his place.

Alex Hales remains a key figure for Trent Rockets, along with fellow opener Tom Banton.

The stats

Trent Rockets have won twice and lost twice this season, the two wins came when batting first, the two defeats came when chasing.

Banton and Hales have each landed top Rockets run-scorer honours on two occasions in their side's four matches.

This is the fourth Men's Hundred meeting between the two franchises, with the Rockets having won two, the Spirit one.

Prediction

Everything points to the Rockets having the upper hand against the Spirit going into this must-win fixture for both sides at Trent Bridge.

The hosts have won two matches well and lost two narrowly, whereas the Spirit are already in bother with just two points and the Rockets boast the head-to-head edge as well and look likely winners.

However, in a competition as unpredictable as this, there is enough quality in the London dressing room for a turnaround to happen at any time.

One of those stars is Dan Lawrence, their skipper, who is soon to be heading off with England to take on Sri Lanka.

Before he leaves for international duty he can lead from the front for the Spirit by landing top runscorer honours, just as he did last time out with 27 off 18 balls in defeat to the Invincibles on Sunday.

As for the hosts, there does not seem a lot of point looking beyond openers Banton or Hales for top runscorer glory.

Banton has already copped for backers in two of Trent's four games and Hales in the other two. If one misses out the other does not.

Banton has been the more consistent of the pair with 134 runs to his name including 66 and 45 in his side's first two matches, so is preferred.
