Mikel Arteta will be keen to see his Arsenal side return to winning ways in Saturday's early kick-off

There are eight games on the Premier League card this Saturday, with the action kicking off with Arsenal’s trip to take on Aston Villa at 12.30pm.

There are a number of crucial games in the battle to avoid the drop at 3pm, including Leeds’ visit to Goodison Park to take on Everton and Wolves’ matchup with Bournemouth.

League leaders Manchester City will be looking to cement their place at the top of the tree when they travel to face Nottingham Forest at 3pm while fellow form side Brighton host Fulham.

There are also two crucial 3pm games in west London as Chelsea look to turn their bad run of form around against strugglers Southampton and form team Brentford host Crystal Palace in a derby in the capital.

The day's top-flight action ends with Newcastle's final game before the EFL Cup final as they host Liverpool in the 5.30pm kick-off.

Here are our expert writers' top selections for each of those fixtures.

Aston Villa v Arsenal (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Defeat to Manchester City was a blow to Arsenal’s title hopes but they have an easier run of fixtures in the foreseeable future to tackle, starting with this visit to Aston Villa.

The Gunners will also take plenty of confidence from the fact that they have the best away record in the Premier League, taking 25 points from 11 games.

Aston Villa have been leaky at home and Mikel Arteta’s side are fancied to win, with two or more goals also likely.

Everton v Leeds (Saturday, 3pm)

A crucial match in the battle to avoid relegation, Everton and Leeds do battle at Goodison Park and both sides have been in poor form.

The pair have won just eight of their 44 matches this season between them and have struggled to find the net.

The Toffees have scored just 16 goals in 22 matches and three of Leeds’ last four have gone under 2.5 goals.

Expect a cagey affair with fewer than three goals the pick.

Brighton v Fulham (Saturday, 3pm)

Brighton and Fulham have been two of the surprise packages in the Premier League this season and there may not be anything to split them when they meet here.

The hosts have lost only two of their last 10 league matches and are unbeaten in their last seven while the visitors have only lost once to a team outside of the top five in 16 attempts.

The Seagulls are favourites but Fulham continue to defy expectations and could take a point from this one.

Chelsea v Southampton (Saturday, 3pm)

Chelsea suffered more disappointment with a 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund last time out but their struggles pale in comparison to that of Southampton, who are attempting to cling onto their Premier League status.

The Saints have parted ways with manager Nathan Jones and have lost five of their last six games in all competitions.

The visitors are playing like a team already relegated and Chelsea could register a comfortable success.

Brentford v Crystal Palace (Saturday, 3pm)

Brentford have been in rock solid form recently, going unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League matches.

The Bees have also been very strong at home this season, losing just one of their 11 games at the Gtech Community Stadium.

They should be able to get the better of Crystal Palace, who are winless in their last seven matches in all competitions and this may also be a high-scoring affair.

Wolves v Bournemouth (Saturday, 3pm)

Another huge clash in the battle to avoid the drop sees Wolves host Bournemouth, with five points separating the two teams in the relegation scrap.

Only Everton have scored fewer goals than Wolves this season and they take on a Bournemouth side who have seen their last four league games go under 2.5 goals.

This is likely to be a cagey affair and less than three goals looks the likeliest outcome with neither side expected to go all out.

Nottingham Forest v Manchester City (Saturday, 3pm)

Manchester City went to the top of the table with their win over Arsenal on Wednesday and they look a solid bet to stay there with a victory over Nottingham Forest.

The Tricky Trees are weathering an injury crisis, particularly defensively and they look vulnerable to a Citizens attack that has scored 59 goals in 23 league games.

Pep Guardiola’s side won the reverse fixture 6-0 and could well rack up another big score in this clash, take them to win with four or more goals in the match as well.

Newcastle v Liverpool (Saturday, 5.30pm)

Liverpool are the only team to beat Newcastle in the league this season but the Magpies have been rock solid at home, conceding just six times at St James’ Park this season.

The Reds have taken just eight points from 30 available away from home in the 2022-23 campaign and look vulnerable against the Magpies here.

Eddie Howe’s side will be riding high with the EFL Cup final next weekend and Liverpool may have one eye on Real Madrid next week, back the hosts.
