Swede Alex Noren has the attributes and the back form to be a contender in Detroit this week

- The PGA Tour heads to Detroit this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic
- The event is held at Detroit Golf Club's North Course
- Recommended bets:
- Alex Noren to win and each-way
- Matt Wallace to win and each-way

The North Course at Detroit Golf Club is the scene for this week's PGA Tour stop as the Rocket Mortgage Classic takes centre stage.

Some of the top stars in the game are absent — the entire field will be breathing a sigh of relief that Scottie Scheffler is missing, after the world number one grabbed yet another win at the Travelers Championship on Sunday.

Tom Kim was edged out in a play-off there and he's the 12/1 pre-tournament favourite with LiveScore Bet to go one better now.

He can go well but there's no mistaking the field in Detroit is a little shy of being truly world class and, for that reason, two European golfers with decent records in this part of the world are fancied to fare well.

Noren shapes well for Detroit again

Sweden's Alex Noren is yet to triumph on the PGA Tour. The 41-year-old is a prolific DP World Tour winner, with 11 international successes on his CV.

They include the BMW PGA Championship and Open de France in 2017 and 2018 respectively, while he was a Ryder Cup winner with Europe in 2018 back in Paris.

Noren focuses on the PGA Tour circuit now and it is certainly no leap of faith to suggest he might have more tournament wins behind him had he remained closer to home.

This season, Noren has 15 PGA Tour starts, with a pair of top-10 finishes amongst 10 inside the top 25 and only a brace of missed cuts.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is set to be a birdie-fest, with the winning scores at 20-under or better in four of its five years. Noren has form — with a 21-under return at the American Express and a 21-under yield at the CJ Cup of late.

In his last two appearances here, Noren has posted T4 and T9 finishes, including a personal-best 64 on Sunday in 2021, while last year he shot no higher than 68 in four rounds.

Wallace should give himself a shot

This is one of the newer additions to the PGA Tour, around only since 2019 and, as such, is yet to have a European winner. That should change sooner rather than later and, therefore, a second selection from this side of the Atlantic is included.

England's Matt Wallace is a worthy contender. He is coming here off a T15 at the KLM Open last weekend on the DP World Tour and has the attributes to go well in Detroit.

He is 19th on the PGA Tour for greens in regulation and should at least match that now given this forgiving track.

He is a big enough hitter to take apart the par 5s and he has got previous here, finishing T12 in 2020 and T10 in 2022 from just three visits.

Like Noren, he fared well at last month's CJ Cup, tallying 20-under par and shooting a 63 on day one, so he has got no fears of going low.
