LiveScore Racing Preview: York, August 21, 2021
It is the fourth and final day of a fantastic week at York — and the Ebor itself is the main attraction on Saturday afternoon.
One of Europe's premier handicaps, the Ebor is worth £300,000 to winning connections and is a fiercely competitive contest.
The card runs from 1.50pm until 5.20pm and we have selected five horses to follow from the seven-race offering.
1.50pm - Sky Bet And Symphony Group Strensall Stakes (Group 3, 1m1f)
Godolphin's REAL WORLD backed up his Royal Hunt Cup demolition with a confident Newbury success in Listed company last month over a mile-and-a-quarter — and he is a horse going places for Saeed bin Suroor and talented young rider Marco Ghiani.
The likes of My Oberon and Brunch can further test him but Real World appears the real deal and should now make it 3-3 on turf.
LiveScore Selection: Real World
2.25pm - Sky Bet Melrose Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 1m6f)
With last-time-out winners Summer's Knight, Imperial Sun, King Of The Castle, Oman and Charging Thunder all in attendance and Marshall Plan a likely improver for John and Thady Gosden, this 3YO handicap will take some winning.
Even so, it should be fascinating to see how TRUE COURAGE takes this rise in class.
He has been winning at lower levels with ease and is chasing a four-timer now. He has more to offer, despite being 20lb higher than when his winning run started at Ripon in June.
LiveScore Selection: True Courage
3pm - Sky Bet City Of York Stakes (Group 2, 7f)
Space Blues will be sharper for his Glorious Goodwood run, his first in the UK this year, and is very consistent at this level over this sort of trip, but he may get his fill of it from PRIMO BACIO now.
Ed Walker's filly won a 1m Listed contest at the Dante meeting in May here and has two run good races since in Group 1s against her own sex.
Getting 8lb from her main rivals now, Tom Marquand's mount has a cracking chance back on the Knavesmire.
LiveScore Selection: Primo Bacio
3.35pm - Sky Bet Ebor Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 1m6f)
Johnny Murtagh won this famous race on Mutual Regard in 2014 and the Irishman with a growing reputation as a trainer could bag it again now with MIRANN.
Imported from France last year, he won on his first start in Ireland and then finished a fine second in a Curragh trial for this race last July.
A year on, he gets his Ebor chance and this will be just his second attempt at the trip.
He has been in solid form over shorter this summer and Murtagh has picked up Derby-winning rider Adam Kirby for the ride.
LiveScore Selection: Mirann
4.45pm - Sky Bet Handicap (1m2f)
Another contest stacked with last-time-out winners.
Glorious Goodwood heroes Migration and Qaader are much-respected, as is Sir Michael Stoute's impressive Newmarket scorer Wahraan.
But AERION POWER is armed with an 8lb turnaround, having finished third behind Qaader last time.
The Kingman colt was having only his second start at 1m2f that day and he should be better on the forecast quicker ground now.
This track also looks more likely to suit his run style.
LiveScore Selection: Aerion Power
