LiveScore Racing Preview: Ripon, August 30, 2021
There are not many more picturesque racecourses in the UK than Ripon.
The Garden Racecourse holds the first of two consecutive days of racing on this Bank Holiday Monday.
Racing begins at 1.20pm and runs at the the Yorkshire venue until the finale at 4.50pm.
We have picked out five horses for you to follow.
1.20pm - Castlehouse Construction Supporting Wooden Spoon EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (6f)
There has been an improvement in each of BOLLIN MAY's two appearances since a disappointing debut at Windsor.
On her latest outing, she finished second of 11 runners at Beverley (5f). The margin of defeat was just a neck.
Tim Easterby's runner remains open to improvement and if she takes a step in the right direction here, she should break her maiden.
The two-year-old filly knows what it is all about now and is the one to beat in the opener.
LiveScore selection: Bollin May
1.55pm - Best Odds Guaranteed At ne-bet.com Handicap (1m2f)
Although he is still a maiden after eight appearances, there have been some signs that it is only a matter of time before RENBAWI breaks his maiden.
This race looks a great opportunity for him to do that.
The three-year-old colt from Mark Johnston's yard came home second at Musselburgh over 1m1f earlier this month.
The handicapper has left him off the same mark as that runner-up finish, which is very lenient.
LiveScore selection: Renbawi
2.30pm - Billy Nevett Memorial Handicap (1m2f)
HOWZER BLACK gave a big hint that he was back to his best at Hamilton (1m1f) as he went down by just a neck in a class three handicap.
That was his best outing for a while and if it was over this distance of 1m2f, the result may have been even better.
It has been a busy year for Keith Dalgleish's runner as he was active on the all-weather during the winter.
His best form does tend to come on turf and off a 2lb higher mark that his last appearance, he can go place better over this 1m2f trip.
LiveScore selection: Howzer Black
3.05pm - British Stallion Studs EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy Stakes (6f - Listed)
Following three wins from three starts, TAJ ALRIYADH is stepping up to Listed action and he deserves his shot at this level as he has done nothing wrong so far in his career.
His latest win came over this C&D. Karl Burke's colt remains open to improvement and connections are going to learn a lot about how good their horse is in this race.
They should be confident of another big run and that their horse will remain unbeaten following this feature contest at Ripon.
LiveScore selection: Taj Alriyadh
3.40pm - Ripon Rowels Handicap (1m)
William Haggas' four-year-old KETTLE HILL has low mileage on the clock for his age.
This will be just his sixth career start and he has improved since he was gelded last October.
His second win of his career arrived on the AW at Wolverhampton (1m½f) earlier this season.
The gelding was unlucky not to score for a third time at York (1m) last month as he went down by just a head when he was second of 10 runners.
He was staying on strongly in that race and a 1lb rise in the ratings should not stop him from challenging again here.
LiveScore selection: Kettle Hill
