Dyche: Everton are used to bad news

Sean Dyche does not believe the Premier League's decision to deduct 10 points from Everton will have a negative impact on his players.

The Toffees are staring relegation in the face after dropping to 19th in the table with just four points on the board. 

But Dyche is keeping the faith as he prepares to take the Toffees to Nottingham Forest on Saturday night: He said: "I don't think bad news is going to affect them necessarily. This group is used to bad news. 

"The outside focus has been negative for a couple of seasons so I don't think bad news is going to affect them. The focus is still there as a group. 

"The response in the performance against Manchester United was pleasing." 

Though Everton lost 3-0 to United last Sunday in their first game since the punishment was imposed, they were roared on by the Goodison faithful. 

And Dyche, 52, will be hoping the fans that travel to the Midlands can inspire his side to a precious win on their travels against 15th-placed Forest. 

Cooper cares for Forest

Steve Cooper has dismissed speculation regarding his future as Nottingham Forest manager with his team having only won one of their last nine games. 

Ahead of the match with Everton at the weekend, there have been rumours that the head coach could pay for their current poor form with his job. 

Cooper said: "I don't pay any attention to it. 

"As a manager, you are never too far away from excessive praise and also the opposite. And some clubs will be noisier than others. In my mind, it's irrelevant.

"What's relevant to me is our work, our commitment to the players and the supporters and doing our very best to make this season another progressive one. To do that, there will be ups and downs. 

"One thing is for sure, I really like being the manager when things seem to be going well here. But I want to be the manager even more when it's on the back of a negative result or even a couple of negative results. 

"Because I think that's what this club deserves. A manager who cares as much as I do."

Heckingbottom denies personal pressure

Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom has denied that he is under any pressure as his team prepare for a clash with relegation rivals Burnley. 

He said: "I've spoken with Steve [Bettis, the Sheffield United chief executive] and there have been no different conversations. 

"There is pressure from ourselves to do it, because that's what we want to do. I still expected us to go out and win, regardless of what Bournemouth have done or spent, but we do it our way. 

"Burnley have spent over £100million and brought in 15 players, but we couldn't do that with the position we were in. 

"We kept on their coattails [last season] doing it our way, with work on the training ground and using academy players and it served us well. 

"And until we get the level of resources of the others, we'll keep doing it our way."

Kompany praises Burnley performances

Vincent Kompany has praised Burnley's performances — despite having claimed just four points form 13 league games. 

Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to fellow strugglers Sheffield United, the Belgian seemed confident of a change in fortunes. 

Clarets boss Kompany, 37, said: "The team's been playing really well. I always look forward to seeing them play and to put in real fight. 

"You get tested sometimes in what you preach. Emotionally, after the game it's not great. But you're in this job because you love everything that comes with it. 

"I can change quickly to focus on what's ahead. Behind the scenes, I see total dedication and work rate. I don't think I've ever encountered anything like this. 

"I have the feeling things will turn but it has to happen on the pitch. I want them to be able to pick up the points to show they're on the right track."
