- Newmarket July meeting Day 2: Best bet, each-way selection and treble
- Recommended bets include:
-
No Half Measures to win the Blake-Turner Solicitors Handicap
-
Arabian Dusk each-way in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes

The second day of Newmarket's July meeting includes the first of the meeting's two Group 1 races. The Falmouth Stakes (3.35) is an early clash of the generations, with three-year-old fillies taking on their elders over a mile.

There will be three other races on the card featured on ITV. The Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (2.25) is an early chance for two-year-old fillies to stake a claim for top juvenile honours. There are also two Heritage Handicaps, including the 15:00 which contains a lot of familiar names to those who follow staying handicaps.

Day 2 - Key info

First race: 1.50pm Handicap

Feature race: 3.35 Falmouth Stakes

Following on from Saturday's Eclipse, the Falmouth Stakes (3.35) is a second Group 1 in which three-year-olds and older horses clash over one of the traditionally stronger battlegrounds in European racing.

This is a race over a mile, restricted to fillies and mares. The score is tied over the last 10 years, with five runnings going to three-year-olds and the rest to four-year-olds.

The winners of the corresponding races at Royal Ascot, the Coronation Stakes for younger horses and the Duke Of Cambridge, are the first two in the betting, with Coronation winner Porta Fortuna set to go off favourite.

Best bet of the day

No Half Measures to win the Blake-Turner Solicitors Handicap (5.20pm) @ 2/1

The July course has a sting in its tail, but it is nothing like as stiff as Ascot's five-furlong course. That could make all the difference to No Half Measures, who showed bags of pace in the Holyrood House at Royal Ascot last time and did well to hang around for third.

That form is red hot, with many in-form three-year-olds fighting out the finish. No Half Measures won her group, having made much of the running from stall one which is rarely the best place to be on Ascot's straight course. She could prove hard to peg back today.

Best each-way bet of the day

Arabian Dusk each-way in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (2.25pm) @ 12/1

The best two-year-old form of the season to this point is almost always from Royal Ascot, where the most promising early juveniles clash. For that reason, those with Ascot form dominate the market in the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes.

Yet Arabian Dusk has form on this track, and on the ratings she is not far off what those who ran at Ascot achieved. She was third here in a Listed race less than two weeks ago. She also went off favourite that day.

Arabian Dusk's reputation comes not only from her runs on the track, but her performance at the breeze-up sales in April. She went for more than half a million pounds after her gallop at the sales, so her owners clearly noticed some serious potential. She can put that and her course form to good use.

Day 2 acca

Every day of Newmarket's July meeting we will be suggesting an acca to give customers a big win. On day two, our treble pays xx with LiveScore Bet.

Simon and Ed Crisford's Involvement could have a big say in Friday's opener now he gets a step up in trip

On his performances in another Heritage Handicap at Haydock, as well as at Royal Ascot, this horse has been crying out for a step up to 1m2f. He gets it now and can prove hard to beat.

This filly has been something of a revelation since dropping back to a mile, just like her sire Roaring Lion. She was a comfortable winner at Royal Ascot and can get the better of Porta Fortuna.

The day's nap is a short enough price to include in our treble. Ryan Moore is booked and if he can bag the far rail from stall ten, this race might be over before it starts.
