- Coventry have failed to win any of their last six Championship games
- The Sky Blues have failed to score in four of their last five fixtures
- Recommended bet: Millwall

Millwall began life under rookie manager Joe Edwards with a superb 4-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday and they will be looking for another three points when struggling Coventry visit the Den on Saturday.

The Lions are 15th in the Championship standings, but only six points adrift of the play-off places, and they will be anxious to improve a mediocre home record, having taken just seven points from a possible 24 at the Den this season.

Coventry are four points worse off and appear to be suffering from an extended play-off hangover.

Last season the Sky Blues were a penalty shootout away from clinching Premier League football, but they have gone off the boil in 2023-24, winning just three of 16 Championship fixtures.

Team news

Millwall manager Edwards has a decision to make between the sticks with goalkeeper Matija Sarkic available after a quad injury. Sarkic will challenge Bartosz Bialkowski for a place in the Lions' net.

Forward Duncan Watmore has also been in full training and could feature but defender Joe Bryan is not ready to be considered despite returning to light training.

Coventry attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare has made four consecutive substitute appearances and is pushing for a first start in almost a year.

Kasey Palmer is back in full training and could make his first appearance since September, while Kyle McFadzean is available after compassionate leave. Fabio Tavares is a long-term absentee.

The stats

Millwall will be aiming to snap a run of successive home defeats against the Sky Blues on Saturday.

The Lions have taken just one point from their last four home fixtures.

But goals have been in plentiful supply at the Den recently with five of Millwall’s last six home matches featuring at least three strikes.

Coventry, meanwhile, have gone six games without a victory.

They have failed to score in four of their last five games and have not scored more than one goal in any of their last seven outings.

Six of Coventry’s last seven fixtures have featured no more than two goals.

Prediction

Millwall benefited from a new-manager bounce when winning 4-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday in their first game under Edwards, and they look a solid bet to build on that success with victory over ailing Coventry.

The Lions have been strangely subdued at the Den this term, so Edwards will be anxious to get supporters onside by delivering a strong performance in his first home game at the helm.

Coventry should be expecting a tough challenge and they approach their trip to London low on confidence following a six-game winless run.

Mark Robins’ side play some attractive football and are joint-eighth on the possession statistics with an average of 53%. However, they have lacked a cutting edge since the summer departure of star striker Victor Gyokeres to Benfica.

Attacking reinforcements Ellis Simms and Haji Wright have yet to fully convince and the Sky Blues have failed to score in four of their last five matches.

Coventry should improve as the season progresses, but they are going through a rough patch and could struggle this weekend.
