Matthew Platt’s second-half goal was enough to earn Notts County a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon in League Two.

Platt struck in the 67th minute to keep County within two points of leaders Port Vale.

Wimbledon created the first opportunity of the game. Matthew Stevens interlinked well with strike partner Omar Bugiel to create an opening, but Stevens’ effort was well held by goalkeeper Alex Bass.

Bugiel had the next chance to open the scoring, but his long-range effort was also stopped by Bass.

The Magpies responded well to AFC Wimbledon’s early dominance with an opening of their own as David McGoldrick and Jacob Bedeau interlinked well before the former narrowly curled wide of the far post.

Platt went close for County in the second half when his effort was held by Owen Goodman.

And the defender was not to be denied in the 67th minute when he met Matt Palmer’s delivery to open the scoring.

Alistair Smith looked to equalise from range, but his effort was well saved by Bass.

Lewis Macari’s undercooked back-pass created an opening for Dons substitute Josh Kelly, but again his effort was stopped by Bass as County held on to win.
