Mateo Kovacic is keen to help Manchester City win yet more silverware after arriving from Chelsea.

The move brings an end to the Croatian midfielder's five-year stint at Stamford Bridge.

After completing the switch, he said: "This is a brilliant move for me and I cannot wait to get started with City.

"Anyone who has watched this team under Pep knows how good they are — for me, they are the best in the world.

"The trophies they have won are clear for all to see but they are also the best footballing side out there. To be joining this squad really is a dream for any footballer.

"I still have plenty of learning and developing to do. I know under Pep Guardiola's management I can become a better player, which is really exciting for me.

"My plan now is to rest for a few weeks before coming back to Manchester to prepare for the new season. I want to help this club stay at the top and win more trophies."

Kovacic, 29, initially joined the Blues on loan from Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 before making the switch permanent a year later.

The Austria-born maestro played 221 games for the West Londoners, scoring six goals and winning four trophies — including the Champions League.

But the 95-cap international will now form part of a formidable midfield set-up at Treble winners City under Pep Guardiola's guidance.

Kovacic becomes the latest Chelsea player to exit Stamford Bridge as Mauricio Pochettino continues his squad rebuild.

N'Golo Kante joined Saudi outfit Al-Ittihad last week and Kalidou Koulibaly moved to fellow Pro League side Al-Hilal on Sunday.
