Manchester City's miserable run of form hit a new low on Sunday when they were beaten 2-0 by rivals Liverpool at Anfield, leaving Pep Guardiola's men in fifth place, 11 points behind the leaders.

City's chances of making it five titles in a row look to be all but over, but they must quickly pick themselves up following Sunday's latest setback as they host one of the surprise packages of the season, Nottingham Forest, in midweek.

Team news

City's injury woes this term have been well documented but they did not suffer any fresh problems at Liverpool, although Rodri, Oscar Bobb and Mateo Kovacic remain absent.

John Stones is also expected to sit the clash out having not featured since the Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham on October 30th, while Guardiola is expected to stick with Stefan Ortega in goal after dropping Ederson on Sunday.

Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, Savinho and Jack Grealish all came off the bench at Anfield and are pushing to start against Forest.

The visitors are still without long-term injury victims Ibrahim Sangare and Danilo, while James Ward-Prowse and Anthony Elanga are options to start if Nuno Espirito Santo decides to freshen up his side following the 1-0 home win over Ipswich on Saturday.

The stats

Manchester City have now gone seven games without a win in all competitions, losing six.

City have conceded 19 goals in that dismal run.

The champions have only kept two clean sheets in the league this term.

Forest have only lost once away in the top-flight this season, to Arsenal, and have won at leaders Liverpool, while also securing victories at Leicester and Southampton.

Nuno's side have only failed to score in two of their 13 league games this season.

Prediction

City remain overwhelming favourites to win against Forest, despite their awful run of form, and Guardiola will hope his side finally get back on track at the Etihad.

Sunday's defeat has left them with a huge amount of work to do in the title race as making up the 11-point gap to Liverpool looks too much, even for a squad that has been so good in recent campaigns.

Ordinarily, City would be expected to comfortably brush Forest aside, but they look fragile and extremely vulnerable defensively, offering the visitors plenty of hope that they can become the latest club to shock the Etihad.

Forest are the only side to beat runaway leaders Liverpool this season, deservedly winning 1-0 at Anfield in September and they will have a gameplan to try and pick up a similar result on Wednesday.
