Maidstone’s relegation back to the National League South was confirmed as Boreham Wood got their play-off bid back on track with a 4-0 mauling at Gallagher Stadium.

The Stones won promotion to the National League last summer but, with the team winless since November, their stay always looked in danger of being a brief one.

And the division’s bottom side were consigned to the drop after the Wood, desperate to bounce back after picking just one point from their previous three games, cruised to victory after scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes.

Dennon Lewis struck inside the first minute after latching onto Zak Brunt’s pass and Tyrone Marsh promptly made it 2-0 with a fine chipped finish.

Home goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin prevented the visitors from adding to their lead before half-time but George Broadbent made it 3-0 just before the hour to seal the points.

That was not the end of the misery for United though, with Lewis breaking through to add his second of the day soon after as Maidstone’s one-year stay in the division came to a sorry end.
