Newbie trainer Ryan Potter is confident Jetoile will fare well in next month's Betfair Hurdle at Newbury after a strong recent run of results.

The five-year-old has had a breakout year and is already being tipped to shine in the Grade Three contest.

Jetoile won a Maiden Hurdle race at Chepstow, nine-and-a-half lengths clear of his nearest challenger in November.

He followed that up with another convincing win at Leicester, where he was again saddled by Daryl Jacob.

Those two races prompted Potter to throw him into Grade One action and he did not disappoint as he finished second in the Tolworth Novices' Hurdle at Sandown earlier this month.

Only Constitution Hill, the ante-post favourite for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, could finish ahead of him.

Jetoile is now being primed for the prestigious Newbury race next month and Potter reckons he could run well.

It has been a whirlwind year or so for Potter, who is only in his second year as a trainer.

He was originally a point-to-point handler but picked up his licence when the amateur events were prevented due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He is making a name for himself and could do so further if his charge runs well.

Potter said: "This horse is bringing me to races I have never been to before, so it's exciting to fall upon a horse like this so early in my career. It's only my second season.

"Jetoile is coming along brilliantly. He came out of the Tolworth Hurdle really well.

"Although he came second he didn't have the hardest of races. Once Lorcan Williams realised he wasn't going to beat Constitution Hill he gave him an easy enough time, because he had second sewn up.

"Everyone knows the Betfair Hurdle is going to be really competitive. Jetoile won't get his own way in front, as he has been able to in novice races. If he is thereabouts, it would be great and if he could win it would be amazing."

Colin Tizzard's Jpr One is expected to shine in next month's Betfair Hurdle after recent wins at Taunton and Exeter.

Meanwhile, Knappers Hill, trained by Paul Nicholls, is also in contention after finishing third in a Grade Two at Ascot in December.
