Snow Lantern wins at Newmarket

Jockey Sean Levey praised Snow Lantern after the Richard Hannon-trained filly won the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. 

Hannon has previous history in the race as Snow Lantern's dam - Sky Lantern - was controversially denied victory back in 2013. Elusive Kate finished just ahead that day and connections tried in vain to appeal the result after feeling there was an infringement. 

However, Hannon has now been redeemed by the impressive three-year-old, who was steered home to victory by Levey. 

She made a late charge and finished ahead of Mother Earth and Alcohol Free. Levey said: "It means a massive amount. A lot of hard work has gone into this filly. It's a big deal today. 

"I think she's learned with every run. She's known to be keen so my hands were tied tactically. I was trying to settle her. I thought it would be hard to get out of there [on the inside] but we were able to get out." 

Sandrine continues fine form

Sandrine looked in fine form as she crossed the line to win the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket to follow up her win at Royal Ascot. 

The Andrew Balding-trained filly won the Albay Stakes at the Royal meeting last month in what was only her second-ever start. 

Now she has made it three from three after a one-and-three-quarter length victory over Desert Dreamer. When the field bunched up with a furlong to go, the daughter of Bobby's Kitten broke clear to win the Group Two race. 

Afterwards, Balding praised the composure of his charge as she kept up her 100 per cent record. 

"That was very good. She got a little bit lonely in front, I think, but she's got a lot of ability, which is exciting," he said. 

"She's so relaxed, which I hope bodes well for her chances of staying a mile next year." 

Pyledriver set for King George opportunity

Trainer William Muir says he is very happy with preparations for Pyledriver, who looks set for a run in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes at Ascot. 

The four-year-old was a winner in the Group One Coral Coronation Cup at Epsom last month, winning by a neck from Al Aasy. That followed on from a promising second-place finish at Newmarket in May, in his first race under the guidance of co-trainer Chris Grassick. 

Now, Muir is confident he will fulfil his potential and go to Ascot in the best shape possible. "He's in really good shape. He's done everything we've asked of him," said his Lambourn trainer. 

"He's never missed a beat - so a fortnight Saturday he goes to Ascot for the King George." 

Doncaster the plan for Noble Truth

Trainer Charlie Appleby is set to enter Noble Truth in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster after winning at Newmarket. 

The son of Kingman strode home to win by two lengths ahead of Ehraz on just his second start, after a promising third on his racecourse debut three weeks ago. 

He was trailing for much of the seven-furlong contest but jockey James Doyle picked up the pace for him to secure his maiden win. 

Now, Appleby is confident about sending the two-year-old to Doncaster. "On his first run he was a bit free. He was a lot better today and travelled very well throughout the race - and when he hit the rising ground, he hit the line strong," he said. 

"I think the Vintage [at Goodwood] will probably come too soon for him, but we could work back from something like the Champagne Stakes [at Doncaster]. That gives him a bit of time to do all the right things, hopefully."
