Group Three success for Garrus

Garrus won his maiden Group Three race at Deauville after success at the Prix de Meautry on Sunday.

The 11/2 shot, who finished eighth in the Group One July Cup at Newmarket, won by one-and-a-quarter length ahead of Duhail.

It was his first win since an outing at Wolverhampton in March and trainer Charlie Hills was thrilled with the outcome — but he would not commit to naming his next destination.

Hills said: "It's great to win a Group Three and now I hope we can start looking at other better races again. But there aren't too many of them now left (in Britain this season).

"We'll see how he comes back and work from there, do the right thing by the horse."

Suesa set for Prix de l'Abbaye run

Suesa will run in the Prix de l'Abbaye after her previous outing at York's Ebor Festival.

The filly, trained in Sauvagnon by Francois Rohaut, won impressively in the Group Two King George Stakes at Goodwood last month — three-and-a-half lengths clear of her nearest challenger.

She then entered the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes but finished a disappointing fourth despite being pre-race favourite.

An unfavourable draw on the outside was thought to hinder the three-year-old bay, who finished behind winner Winter Power.

James Wigan, racing manager to owner George Strawbridge, said: "All being well, she will run in the Prix de l'Abbaye.

"I think that she ran a very good race, she was probably on the wrong side of the course.

"All the speed was on the other side and she had to race on her own, but she was making up ground."

Lone Eagle out for season

Lone Eagle future career is now in jeopardy
Lone Eagle future career is now in jeopardy

Lone Eagle will miss the rest of the season after suffering an injury and his career could be in doubt.

The Martyn Meade-trained three-year-old has been sidelined since July after finishing last in the King George VI Stakes at Ascot.

His last victory came courtesy of Listed success at York in May while he has missed the Great Voltigeur Stakes at the same course.

Unfortunately, his career has now been placed in jeopardy, according to his trainer.

Meade said: "I'm afraid he suffered an injury after his run in the King George. He's out for the season.

"It's an injury that will take careful management — he's certainly out for the rest of this season and the rest of his career is under doubt."

Taj Alriyadh to put unbeaten run on the line

Trainer Karl Burke is confident Taj Alriyadh will continue his unbeaten run in Ripon on Monday.

The colt will run at Listed class after three wins from three — two at Catterick and one at Ripon.

He will now go for glory on the same course in the British Stallion Studs EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy and Burke believes his experience of the course will stand him in good stead.

The North Yorkshire trainer said: "He worked very well on Friday and fingers crossed he goes there with a good chance. I think it's a big advantage, having had that run there already.

"He has surprised us really. He's a very uncomplicated horse at home — he just does what you ask him."
