Lille ended a five-game winless run by overcoming promoted Le Havre 3-0 in Ligue 1 at the weekend in a welcome boost ahead of a huge Champions League fixture against defending champions Real Madrid on Wednesday.

The Spanish giants are yet to be beaten after nine games this season across all competitions, securing six wins and three draws.

However, Los Blancos come into this game after a disappointing result, as they were denied a sixth straight victory and a derby win as they conceded a stoppage time equaliser at Atletico Madrid.

Eder Militao scored their goal against Los Colchoneros but another Brazilian looks the player to favour when surverying this match at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Team news

Lille boss Bruno Genesio will be without the suspended Angel Gomes and injury victims Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, Ismaily and Samuel Umtiti, while Nabil Bentaleb is considered a doubt due to a recent illness.

Real's marquee summer signing Kylian Mbappe is out until after the October international break.

The former PSG forward had scored in four straight games for Los Blancos until he was struck down with a hamstring injury.

Fran Garcia and Thibaut Courtois are doubts after taking knocks at Atletico.

David Alaba, Brahim Diaz and Dani Ceballos are sidelined at present but Frenchman Eduardo Camavinga could be involved after returning to the bench at the weekend.

The stats

Lille have lost their last two Champions League games including qualifiers.

Both teams have scored in three of Real Madrid's four away matches this season.

Lille and Real Madrid have never previously met in European competition.

Lille have only won one of their last nine major European meetings with Spanish sides, losing five.

Real Madrid are on a 14-game unbeaten run in the Champions League, recording 10 wins.

Vini Jr managed six goals in 10 appearances in last season's Champions League.

Prediction

It could be another tough evening for Lille and Bruno Genesio

Real head to France as the clear favourites and they should have little trouble in overcoming this out-of-sorts LOSC side, who have four defeats in their last six.

Portugal's Sporting CP overcame Lille 2-0 in the first batch of league phase games and Real are a level above the Lisbon side, so they should be able to win fairly comfortably and as such the best approach could be the goalscorer markets.

With Mbappe absent until after the upcoming international break, Carlo Ancelotti's other forwards have a chance to make a statement and Brazil star Vinicius Junior looks a good contender.

Vini Jr hit six goals in 10 appearances in this competition last season and has been chipping in with a few goals in La Liga this term, with three in eight games so far.

The 24-year-old has more assists (four) than goals in this early stages of the campaign but could be the focal point for Real now Mbappe is missing, and he has real appeal for an anytime effort on Wednesday.
