Haqeeqy gunning for Hunt Cup glory

John Gosden is lining up a run in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot for Haqeeqy

The four-year-old was a two-time winner at Doncaster in September and March but disappointed in his latest run at Ascot.

Upped to listed class, he could only finish fourth of nine runners in the Paradise Stakes but Gosden is confident the Lope De Vega gelding can get back to prime form in better conditions this week.

"He won the Lincoln well but didn't seem to fire at Ascot last time, so we've freshened him up," said Gosden.

"He's a sweet horse, a little bit sensitive about life, so I'm hoping being covered up will suit him - I think he likes to be buried and run on late."

Scare for Subjectivist ahead of Gold Cup

,Trainer Mark Johnston had revealed Subjectivist fell over on the way to the gallops on Friday but will be okay for the Gold Cup at Ascot.

The second-favourite for the Gold Cup behind Stradivarius suffered only superficial damage after tumbling.

The four-year-old has won three of his last four races and despite scaring connections, Johnston has confirmed he will be fit to run in Thursday's prestigious race.

"We had a scare on Friday, he fell over and skinned both knees and his hocks but just superficial grazes," the Middleham handler said.

"It happened on the way to the gallops. Obviously it was a big scare because it was him.

"There was no swelling and he cantered both yesterday and today, so all should be well."

Poetic Flare and Mostahdaf are among 13 entries for the upcoming St James' Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday.

The former, trained by Jim Bolger, won the 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket last month, before settling for a runner-up finish in the Irish 2000 Guineas behind stablemate Mac Swiney.

Mostahdaf - another runner trained by John Gosden - is unbeaten, having won each of his three starts.

A four-and-a-half length win by the Frankel colt at Newcastle kicked his career off in great fashion in May, before narrow victories at Kempton and Sandown followed.

Doyle aiming to inspire at Ascot

Jockey Hollie Doyle is hoping the presence of more women at big events will inspire more girls into the sport.

The 24-year-old became the first multiple-winning female rider at Royal Ascot last year, having guided Scarlet Dragon to Duke of Edinburgh Stakes glory and Onassis to victory in the Sandringham Stakes.

In 2019, she won the Sandringham Stakes aboard Thanks Be to become the first woman to win at the Royal meeting for 32 years.

Doyle is booked in for over a dozen rides at Ascot this upcoming week and will hope to win the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes for the second year running with the Archie Brown-trained Parent's Prayer.

And, the 2020 Sports Personality of the Year nominee says it is fantastic to see an increase in the number of women competing.

Doyle told Great British Racing: "It's great to see that there have been a lot more women competing at Royal Ascot in recent years.

"We are just as good as men given the opportunity and I hope that other women continue to work hard and pursue their dreams of working in racing."
