Ferguson celebrates first Group success
Trainer James Ferguson was able to celebrate the first Group-race success of his career on Saturday as Mise En Scene won the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood.
The two-year-old made it two wins from two as she beat favourite Daneh, with bookmakers now expecting her to run in next year's 1000 Guineas.
Ferguson admits Mise En Scene is the best horse he's ever had the pleasure of training, and he thinks there is more to come from the filly.
He told reporters: "It feels brilliant. We've always really liked her at home and to get her from Sheikh Fahad (al Thani) was a real honour given her pedigree.
"She looks like she'll make a really nice three/four-year-old but just came to hand ready for Haydock - and she was impressive there."
Lavender's Blue lands Celebration Mile
Connections of Lavender's Blue were celebrating on Saturday as the five-year-old got up in the final strides to deny Benbatl in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood.
The 20/1 shot was the lowest-rated runner in the nine-strong field, but Amanda Perrett's charge looked the part as she romped to victory. Benbatl hit the front with a furlong to go, but Lavender's Blue got up on the line to win by a short head, much to the delight of Perrett, who won the race back in 2002 with Tillerman.
"She's really deserved that as we've set her some stiff tasks the last few times," said Perrett. "The fillies' division is really strong this year, and that is why we weren't too worried about taking on the opposite sex today."
St Mark's Basilica on track for Leopardstown
Trainer Aidan O'Brien has said multiple Group One winner St Mark's Basilica is on track to run in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 11.
The three-year-old, who has won three of his last four races, suffered a cut on his hind leg recently, forcing him to miss the Juddmonte International. The cut, caused by a lost shoe, became infected, but O'Brien says his team are confident he will feature next month.
"St Mark's Basilica is on the right road," O'Brien said. "It's a case of all good so far, and we're on track."
Keane celebrates ton success
On Saturday, jockey Colin Keane recorded his 100th win of the season as he guided Barretta home in the Donate To The Coast To Curragh Cycle In Memory Of Pat Smullen Maiden at Navan.
Keane started the day 45 winners clear of Shane Foley in the Irish jockeys' championship, but he extended that when Barretta won by five-and-a-half-lengths.
Speaking about his success, Keane said: "It's a brilliant feeling, and the year has been going great. To hit 100 in a full season is hard enough, so to do it so quickly is unbelievable, really.
"But, look, we're riding for great people, and I've great people around me, and I've a very good agent, so I'm very fortunate."
