Jos Buttler has urged his England team-mates to learn from their opening loss to the West Indies in Antigua. 

England won just three of their nine matches at the World Cup and could not start their one-day international series with a victory despite putting up a score of 325.

Shai Hope hit a century for the Windies and inspired them to a four-wicket win with seven balls to spare.

Buttler said: "It was a brilliant game of cricket, credit to Shai and Romario Shepherd. It was some fantastic hitting.

"We will learn a lot from that. They did really well at the back end to chase those runs down.

"I thought it was a fantastic batting effort by us. They [Phil Salt & Will Jacks] set the tone at the top.

"They pegged us back a bit in the middle phase but it was fantastic effort to get to that score and it needed a fantastic innings to chase it down."

Despite a disappointing end, the visitors did at least flex their muscles with the bat.

But Buttler himself scored just three runs from 13 balls and concerns continue to surround the captain, who refused to be drawn into speculation about his future.

He added: "You always want to play well. It has been a while since I played to my best so I need to keep working hard and trust that I can come back.

"I thought there were some fantastic phases for us. Rehan Ahmed was outstanding and there was a lot to be proud of. There was a lot of good stuff in the game. 

"There are things we can do better and we look forward to the next one."
