Championship side Huddersfield have announced Andre Breitenreiter as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half year deal.

The 50-year-old German replaces Darren Moore at the John Smith's Stadium and becomes Town's third boss of the season after Neil Warnock left the club in September.

Breitenreiter led Paderborn into the Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history in 2014 before landing the top job at Schalke, who he guided into the Europa League two years later.

The former Germany Under-21s international then moved to Switzerland where he claimed a shock Swiss Super League title with FC Zurich in 2022.

He will take charge of the Terriers squad next week, with caretaker manager Jon Worthington leading them into this weekend's match against Hull.

Chairman Kevin Nagle said: "I'm very excited about Andre's appointment.

"At the start of this process, we were very clear on what we expect our head coach to deliver.

"Top of that list was the creation of a winning culture, where there is no fear over taking bold options to try and get all three points in every game.

"We also want to deliver a type of football that will excite our supporters, who love a high-tempo, front-foot, all-action style.

"We believe Andre is the ideal candidate to deliver this. I'm excited to see the impact he has on our talented squad."

Despite sitting 20th in the Championship, Huddersfield have lost just one of their last six matches.

Breitenreiter's first game in charge will be away at Watford next Saturday before his first home match against Leeds.
