Harvey Elliott has spoken of his delight after being handed a new long-term deal by Liverpool.

The talented Englishman, 19, signed fresh terms with his boyhood club in July 2021 but was sidelined last September after suffering a serious ankle injury.

He battled back to fitness and has now been rewarded with an improved and extended contract to reflect how highly rated he is by boss Jurgen Klopp and everyone else at Anfield.

Elliott, who has made 22 senior appearances for Liverpool, said: "It’s nice to know I’m going to be here for many more years, which is a great thing with it being my boyhood club.

"There is nothing in this world that makes me more happy and more excited than this."

Having been injured in a 3-0 Premier League win at Leeds, Elliott made a goalscoring return in February in an FA Cup win over Cardiff.

He also netted in the penalty shootout at Wembley later that month as the Reds edged out Chelsea to lift the Carabao Cup.

Elliott, who moved to Merseyside from Fulham in July 2019, added: "It’s been a big rollercoaster for me and my family and even for the club. So much has happened in the years that I have been here.

"We’ve already won so much and hopefully we can win so much more. As I said, it’s always a wonderful feeling for myself and my family.

"Being Liverpool supporters, there is no better place in this world to be than playing for Liverpool and to put the shirt on and go out and play for the team and the fans.

"I’m hoping there are many more memories to come with it but I’m just so excited to put pen to paper and stay here for a lot longer."
