The fourth day of the Goodwood Festival takes place on Friday — a day for the sprinters — with the feature King George Qatar Stakes run over the downhill five furlongs.

The big race is off at 3.35pm and is a Group 2 contest, the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes (2.25pm) is the second Group race of the day, while the Golden Mile at 3pm is one of the biggest and most competitive handicaps of the season.

Here is everything you need to know for day four, including the day's best bets.

Day 4 - Key info

First race: 1.50pm Goodwood Handicap

Feature race: 3.35pm King George Qatar Stakes

The King George Qatar Stakes is the biggest sprint of the week at Goodwood and it tends to place more emphasis on speed than many other big races at the minimum trip because the straight course on the downs is predominantly downhill.

The market for the race this year is headed by Big Evs and Asfoora, who finished third and first in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The market favoured Big Evs that day and does so narrowly once again, with the speed test at Goodwood likely to suit him better than the stiff uphill Ascot finish.

The Thoroughbred Stakes (2.25pm) has been won by some top-class milers, including Baaeed three years ago, while the Golden Mile (3pm) has attracted a huge field and is always one of the best betting races of the week.

Best bet of the day

Lead Artist to win the Thoroughbred Stakes (2.25pm) @ 4/1

This lightly-raced Dubawi colt was an impressive winner of a mile novice at York in May and went off favourite for the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket last time only to finish a well-held third, although it could be he found the good to soft ground against him.

He still kept on nicely and might be capable of better now that he is returned to a quick surface, so it is worth backing him to reverse the places with Newmarket winner Al Musmak.

Best each-way bet of the day

Revich each-way in the Golden Mile (3pm) @ 40/1

Revich (left) is a big-price option in the Golden Mile
Revich (left) is a big-price option in the Golden Mile

Revich was third in this race two years ago off a mark of 96 and simply must have a chance from a rating of 93 this time, provided he can reproduce that form this season.

That is a big proviso because he has been well held on all three starts this year, but there was some market support for him at Chester last time before he blew his chance by getting too far behind and racing wide. He has been given an 84-day break to freshen up since.

That is a positive as he goes well after a break and is 2lb lower than when last successful at Ayr in September last year.

Day 4 acca

Everybody loves an accumulator and we will be pointing towards one on each of the five days this week. On day four, our treble pays 102/1 with LiveScore Bet.

Bet 1: Back Kyle Of Lochalsh to win the Goodwood Handicap (1.50pm) @ 9/2

This progressive stayer will relish the return to an extreme trip and is improving quickly enough to reverse the places with Temporize, who beat him at Newbury last time.

Bet 2: Back Lead Artist to win the Thoroughbred Stakes (2.25pm) @ 4/1

This classy three-year-old can bounce back from a defeat in Listed company at Newmarket now that he is returned to quicker ground.

Bet 3: Back Big Evs to win the King George Qatar Stakes (3.35pm) @ 11/4

This speedy colt, who is a course-and-distance winner, will be well suited by this downhill track and should have enough to hold off Asfoora this time.
