Eriksen's quarrel

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen says he has spoken to manager Erik ten Hag about his lack of minutes on the pitch this season.

The Dane has only started nine Premier League matches this term and has been an unused substitute in six of the last seven top-flight matches.

He said: "I've had a conversation with Erik [ten Hag] that of course I'm unhappy with the situation and that I want to play as much as possible but that I'm available and have to be available for the team, which I am and always will be.

"He said it was the team he had chosen and Kobbie [Mainoo] is doing well and the rest of the centre [midfield] is doing well as well, so there is a fight for places, which is to be expected when you play at a top club.

"There is a lot of competition in the team. I've said in the past that I'm not happy with not playing but it's not something I'm sleepless about.

"The team is performing and so I have to respect the role you have. It's easier now to accept my role than it had been before."

Mainoo for England

Kobbie Mainoo has been handed a late call-up to the England senior squad.

The 18-year-old was initially part of the Under-21s team but has now been elevated into Gareth Southgate's ranks.

The other 25 squad members have already reported to St George's Park ahead of the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Manchester United midfielder Mainoo has previously represented England at U-17s and U-19s level.

He has also forced his way into Erik ten Hag's line-up in recent months, starting each of the last 12 Premier League games.

Mainoo will now link up with United team-mates Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford as the Three Lions prepare for the two matches at Wembley.

Heading Stateside

Manchester City will jet off to the US in the summer to participate in a pre-season tour alongside Chelsea, AC Milan, Celtic and Barcelona.

City, who are aiming to repeat their Treble triumph of last season, will kick off their preparations for the 2024-25 campaign on July 23 against Scottish champions Celtic.

They will then face Italian giants Milan four days later, Pep Guardiola clashes with former side Barca and the tour will then finish against Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino's men will also face Celtic but have clashes against Wrexham, Club America and Real Madrid scheduled when they head Stateside.

Villan on the mend

Aston Villa goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar has successfully undergone surgery on a hip injury.

The 24-year-old joined the Villans on a free transfer from FC Twente in the summer and has since made 14 appearances in the Women's Super League.

A club statement said: "Daphne van Domselaar has undergone successful surgery on a hip injury sustained prior to our recent Conti Cup defeat to Arsenal.

"The goalkeeper is set to miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season and will immediately begin her rehabilitation with the club's medical staff.

"Wishing you a speedy recovery, Daphne!"

Sunday's opponents Arsenal are believed to be interested in the Dutch international and could trigger her reported £200,000 release clause in the summer.

Pride of Wales

Wales midfielder Ethan Amapdu is keen to make a big impact on the pitch ahead of the Euro 2024 play-offs this week.

The versatile 23-year-old is set to earn his 50th cap, making him the youngest Welshman to do so and breaking Chris Gunter's record.

But despite nearing the impressive milestone, Ampadu is only focused on helping his country secure a place in Germany for this summer's tournament.

He said: "I'm still young but I've experienced a lot, which I'm very grateful for.

"I'm hoping I've still got a long way to go in the game and I can achieve a lot more.

“It's just nice to hopefully reach the milestone but it's more important we get to the Euros. That's massive.

"I would probably enjoy that more, especially that feeling as a squad, and as fans we all deserve that."

Soccer Aid preparations are well under way as the highly-anticipated event returns to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Several famous faces have already been announced including Usain Bolt, Eden Hazard and Roberto Carlos, while Mauricio Pochettino and Frank Lampard will manage the World XI and England respectively.

The event has raised over £90million for UNICEF since 2006 and England will be targeting a sixth win while sporting a specially commissioned Euro 96 kit.

The World XI will wear a limited edition adidas strip as they push for their eighth victory and more players are set to be unveiled for both sides in due course.

Presenter and former player Alex Scott said: "This year's Soccer Aid for UNICEF is back in London and with such an incredible line-up, I can't wait to be a part of it.

"The money raised really will make such a difference to children everywhere, so I hope as many people as possible come along and support it."

Soccer Aid for UNICEF takes place on June 9 at Stamford Bridge and will be live on ITV1, STV and ITVX. Tickets are on sale now at socceraid.org.uk/tickets.

Boa Morte moves on

Fulham legend Luis Boa Morte will leave the club at the end of the season to take up the head coach role at Guinea-Bissau.

Boa Morte, 46, earned icon status at Craven Cottage after scoring 54 times in 250 appearances for the Cottagers before returning as a first-team coach under Marco Silva.

A club statement said: "The club can confirm Luis Boa Morte will leave Fulham at the end of the season to take up a position as head coach of Guinea-Bissau.

"An integral part of the backroom staff that saw us win the Championship in that first season, Boa Morte was then part of the team that helped re-establish Fulham as a top-flight outfit as we finished 10th in the Premier League.

"Everyone at Fulham would like to thank Boa for his efforts since his return to the club and wishes him the best of luck in this next chapter when he departs following our season finale away to Luton."

Fulham are enjoying a comfortable season in the Premier League. They sit 12th and have scored wins over Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham in 2023-24.
