Moving on

Xavi has confirmed Ousmane Dembele is set to join Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona.

Dembele, 26, has scored 40 goals in 185 games since joining Barca from Borussia Dortmund for £135million in 2017.

But Xavi admits PSG have managed to prise the France international away from the Spanish giants.

He said: "He says he has this proposal and that he has decided to leave. It is his personal decision.

"I will be very clear. He has been very direct that he has a proposal from PSG, that they have called him from there and we cannot do anything.

"It hurts me because I think we have taken great care of him here so he is happy and content and continues to make a difference for us."

Loan star

Mauricio Pochettino admits new signing Lesley Ugochukwu may leave Chelsea on loan before the transfer window slams shut.

The midfielder, 19, was handed a seven-year deal yesterday after the Blues concluded negotiations with Ligue 1 side Rennes.

But Poch, speaking ahead of tonight's friendly with Borussia Dortmund in Chicago, said: "We need to assess him when he starts training today and then in London after the tour [of the US].

"He's a young, talented player. Now is the time to assess him until the end of the transfer window and see if he is going to be with us or maybe it can be a possibility to loan him."

No words

Lauren Hemp has heaped praise on Lauren James after the Chelsea star scored twice in England's 6-1 win over China yesterday.

Speaking on the latest episode of Lionesses: Down Under connected by EE, the 22-year-old midfielder said of her international team-mate: "There are no words to describe her, she's unbelievable.

"We see it every day in training and now we're seeing it in games. It's great the world can see what an unbelievable player she is.

"We see it in the WSL every single week and now the world is seeing that. It's amazing to have her on this team.

"She creates so many chances for us and scores so many goals. She had an amazing game yesterday.

"She's growing throughout the tournament. She's a confident girl and an absolute credit to this team."

Done deal

Arsenal have extended their sponsosrhip deal with Emirates until 2028.

A statement on the club's website said: "Arsenal and Emirates are delighted to announce the extension of their partnership — the longest-running front-of-shirt sponsorship in Premier League history.

"Our partnership with the UAE's leading flag carrier began in July 2006 and will now run until at least 2028, taking the collaboration to a minimum of 22 years.

"After 17 years of incredible moments and working together to bring our global communities closer together, Emirates is woven into the fabric of Arsenal.

"Emirates has been ever present on the front of our men's, women's and academy team shirts and our home in North London has featured the Emirates name since it opened in 2006."

Arena under review

New England Revolution head coach Bruce Arena has been placed on administrative leave pending a Major League Soccer review into allegations of "insensitive and inappropriate" remarks.

The American, 71, joined the club in 2019 and is also their sporting director.

The Revolution said: "The New England Revolution has placed Arena on administrative leave as a result of an ongoing investigation being conducted by Major League Soccer into allegations of insensitive and inappropriate remarks.

"The organisation takes any allegations of workplace misconduct extremely seriously."

Arena had two stints as United States manager and previously managed LA Galaxy, DC United and New York Red Bulls.

Giorgi checks in

Watford have signed Giorgi Chakvetadze on a season-long loan from Gent.

The Hornets hold the option to make the 23-year-old midfielder's move permanent at the end of the season.

Chakvetadze, who has been capped 16 times by his country, scored eight goals in 81 appearances for Gent after joining the Belgian side from Dinamo Tbilisi.

He spent last season on loan at Slovan Bratislava.
