Reiss stays

Reiss Nelson has committed his future to Arsenal by signing a new four-year contract.

The Hale End academy graduate, 23, was hampered by injuries in 2022-23 but still enjoyed his best season in a Gunners jersey.

He scored three goals and tallied two assists in 11 Premier League appearances, averaging a contribution every 40 minutes.

On the English winger's new deal, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: "Reiss is a player I have admired since the first day I was here.

"He has tremendous ability and is such an exciting offensive talent.

"Reiss knows how important he is to our squad with the quality he has.

"It's great that Reiss has committed his future to us — he knows this club so well, he grew up here and we look forward to enjoying many more good moments with him."

Asensio joins

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Marco Asensio on a free transfer.

The Spain playmaker, 27, saw his contract at Real Madrid expire on July 1 after spending nine years with the 14-time European champions.

On his move to the Ligue 1 outfit, he said: "It's a privilege to be part of this great club. I'm looking forward to joining my new team-mates and working with them to achieve some great goals."

Asensio made 286 appearances for Los Blancos and scored 61 goals, including one in the 2017 Champions League final victory over Juventus.

The 37-cap international will now link up with his former La Roja boss Luis Enrique at the Parc des Princes after he was confirmed as PSG's new manager on Wednesday.

Coach Castro

Luis Castro has officially been appointed the new head coach of Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

The Portuguese will take charge of the team led by compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo after Rudi Garcia was relieved of his duties in April following a poor run of results.

Castro, 61, boasts vast experience as a manager, having previously worked at Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and — most recently — Brazilian side Botafogo.

Red Evans

Manchester United have signed Wales defender Gemma Evans on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old joins Marc Skinner's side after spending the last two seasons at Reading, who were relegated on the final day of the 2022-23 Women's Super League season.

Evans has 50 international caps to her name and is also capable of playing as a forward.

Gibbs-White on the money

Morgan Gibbs-White is feeling confident after helping England reach the final of the European Under-21 Championship, where they will play Spain.

The Nottingham Forest playmaker made up for a missed penalty by scoring the opener in the Young Lions' 3-0 semi-final win over Israel on Wednesday.

After the game, Gibbs-White said: "It's hard to put into words. We've been working for the past two years just to get to this moment.

"It's not an achievement yet, we still have loads of work to do. I feel like we have a good, together team and the right team that can go all the way."

Gibbs-White also made it clear he wants to add more goals to his game moving forward.

He added: "I feel confident. Obviously there's always room to improve.

"My main role for the team is just to try and help the team as much as possible on and off the ball.

"I feel like assists have been a big part of my game this season and I've carried that into the tournament. It's just about trying to get more goals now."

Luton defender Tom Lockyer has sorted his future by signing a new contract with the Hatters.

The 28-year-old was voted the club's Player of the Season for 2022-23 and named in the Championship Team of the Season.

Lockyer made 45 appearances and scored five goals last term as Rob Edwards' side achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time.

On his new deal, the 14-cap Wales international said: "I'm so happy. I'd really like to build something special here at Luton.

"I've got an incredible relationship with the fans, the manager, all the boys. I love the club and I love being here.

"It's incredible what we achieved last season. To have the chance to play with Luton in the Premier League will be something that's really special to me."

Angel in Lisbon

Benfica have confirmed the return of Angel Di Maria on a one-year contract.

The Argentine winger, 35, previously spent three years at the Lisbon-based outfit after joining from Rosario Central in July 2007.

Di Maria played 121 games for Benfica in his first spell at the club, scoring 15 goals and tallying 28 assists.

The 132-cap international won three trophies with the Eagles, including the 2009-10 Portuguese league title.

It is the first time in 30 years that the German sportswear manufacturer's iconic three stripes return to the Giallorossi's jersey.

On the club's latest acquisition, Villa manager Carla Ward said: "Lucy is someone we’ve tracked for some time and we know we had a lot of competition to sign her.

"She's a front-footed, ball-playing centre-half and is someone who will add a lot of quality to our defensive unit."
